I must confess -I am totally in agreement with Teresa May over this. Utterly disgraceful.
How can anyone claim that remembering millions of people who were mown down promotes or glorifies war. Allowing the players to wear poppies would get children asking what it was all about. It would also remind the adults that those who died were once young men in the prime of life.
I like the point she made about Fifa getting it’s own house in order. Back of the net!
I hope the supporters turn the stands red with poppies.

There may be a way round this . What about the captain's carry a poppy wreath together onto the field. The both teams hold a two minute silence with a poppy displayed on the big screens. FIFA have strict rules and the red poppy is a military memorial. Strictly speaking the wreath should contain red and white poppies.

I don't understand it. The rules are; nothing political, religious or commercial, none of which you can attribute to what the poppy is worn for.

FIFA allowed a 1 minute's silence in an international to remember the dead in the Paris attacks so I can't see any justification for banning the poppy on the grounds of ''if we open the doors fo you...''

What makes me fume is their ban on political,religious or commercial messages on shirts.
How does the wearing of a poppy break this ban? This sombre symbol to remind us of the consequences of extreme views in politics, religion and indeed commerce. A reminder of the slaughter that results when one group of people insists their views on politics and religion should be inflicted on others!
I was born and raised a catholic yet go a Church of England service every year on remembrance Sunday. I come from a country where Catholics and protestants did, and many still do, hate each other. Yet the poppy is worn by all faiths and followers of all political views. It is worn by the commercial giants and the poor and disenfranchised.
Hundreds of professional footballers were killed during both world wars not to mention those whose careers were ruined by injury. I wonder if they are looking down on Fifa and are proud of the profession that has become riddled with scandal, corruption and greed! Is it too much to ask that they be remembered?

The wimps in the FA have let us down. If FIFA say "jump", these freeloaders ask "How high?"

I would just wear poppies anyway-What can they do? void the result? That means one team will gain from it.

I'm sick of FIFA dictating to us all of the time and lest we forget the world cup bids that ended in farce.

Nope, didn’t think so.
Many people assume this is about ‘celebrating’ a noble sacrifice? Would we not prefer this had never happened? When we watch or attend remembrance ceremonies are there not tears of grief? I am proud to say I have not missed a ceremony since I came to the UK 30 years ago and not once have I seen any evidence of triumphalism. All the programmes and ceremonies we see on TV depict great loss and heartache. I will stand in any weather and reflect on young men up to their necks in freezing mud, waiting to walk into a bloodied field to die among the torn bodies of their friends who went before them. I really cannot see how this would make anyone feel like fist pumping or whooping let alone a feeling of superiority. Our ejits sent brothers, fathers and sons to fight the brothers fathers and sons sent by their ejits. We all lost. We all need to remember that. Many still need to be reminded of that -Especially the ejits at Fifa!

apparently we, as a nation just need to make a relatively token donation to a charity registered in Panama. If we are generous we, can even be considered for hosting a tournament.

Anna Guerin was the 'French Poppy Lady'

Quite right too. Also the poppy armband was agreed with FIFA previously. The ban is shameful - ignore it!!!!!!!!!

When you think the Rep of Ireland team sported badges commemorating the 1916 Easter rising……..Oh I think Fifa would be on a sticky wicket punishing England for sporting the humble poppy.
I can give you chapter and verse on 1916 and I tell you that although it was not mainly sectarian it sure as hell was political!!!!
