  • Hay Fever.

Anybody suffer from hay fever. I have never had it but in the last few weeks i have been sneezing, blowing my nose and my eyes have been watering constantly. Is it hay fever? Is there a doctor in the house?

    Hi RLJ

yep sadly i suffer with it badly.... a couple of weeks ago the grass pollen season started it could be this is what has triggered it. The worst for me is tree pollen even though they all affect me in one way or another .

i only started getting hayfever at around 24 years old so it can just start just like that.

mt advice see your GP, get some anthistamines and try an work out wot you have been near when the allergy starts.

i hope that makes sense only my brain a bit fried... too many antihistamines lol

Definately hayfever, by the sounds of it RLJ. I've had it really bad since I was a kid, usually starts march/april time and lasts all way thru to september/october, depending on the weather - its murder trying to do the garden [it's usually a jungle cos i can never finish it without my eyes being all puffed up and half closed lol], can't have the windows open in the bedrooms even when its really hot, and to top it off, it can even set my asthma off so I can't breathe either.

But if you've just got a mild case, you should be fine with some antihistamines and possibly some eye/nose drops. Get it sorted tho cos it can make your life a complete misery.

Same here with the asthma thing, makes you feel as though your eyes are dried up prunes and soooo itchy. Funny taste in the back of your throat too anyone?

Its Rape Seed that sets me off and that is what covers most of the fields around here, I can taste it most of the day and piriton dont do much but send me to sleep, I used to get these disolvable ones from the herbal shop when I was younger, little weird things that you have a few of at once, they dont taste good but they worked. Cant remember what they were called though.

Peej is right though, it can make your life miserable, like a seriously bad cold all through summer, mine too comes to an end in about september october time and picks up again late april when rape is out.

I have a preblem with grass pollen, this year I don't seem to be too bad for some reason, just have constantly bunged up nose.

Other half is suffering really bad at the moment.

I have to be careful with anithistamines as I suffer from vertigo, and the only thing that helps me when I have a bad do of that is betahistamines!

Fortunately I've grown out of it now but it made my summers miserable until recently, have any of you tried putting sunglasses on before you leave the house and keeping them on all teh time you're outdoors? I found this a great help and now my son does too.

I've tried the sunnies, amongst numerous other things, and even they don't work - I've even tried staying indoors, but the door only has to be opened to let someone in and that's it, i'm off lol

The only thing that seems to relieve the symptoms for me, specially the eyes, is a nice bath with the steam - dunno why - and obviously I can't live in the bath all summer unfortunately lol The only place my hayfever isn't too bad when the pollen count is high is by the coast - I love going there for at least a day, just so that I can get one day guaranteed from the misery!
