• Win 10 setup- Help

I have just set up my PC with Win10, all went well BUT

When I was using Win7 I had changed the background colour of word docs to a blue/green colour to make the reading easier , I have Irlens. Anyway now lots of things are this same colour, the address bar, all txt in word, outlook etc. I do not need it now as I have my special glasses but can't find how to change it back

I am now having another problem on Win 10.
I use Icloud on my Mac and had Icloud for Windows on my Win7 machine, all worked well, good syncing etc. Now I am on Win10 the syncing is erratic to non existant . I have posted on the apple forum but no one seems to know the answer

Any thoughts

Seriously thinking of a change to Linux Kati was telling me how good it is,
getting fed up with constant updates and what ever with W10.

Linux distros issue frequent updates on supported versions, but they do let you decide when to do it and tell you what they are for if you want to know.

Plus a lot less reboots required.

I rarely use Windows at all. Most of the time if I really need to then it's in a Virtual machine anyway, running under linux.

Hi nemesis

some infor before you choose.

Distributions ( flavours ) http://distrowatch.com/dwres.php?resource=major

some are better on certain hardware, but i would suggest Mint or kubuntu to start with ( i use both regularly ) ( kali and tails ):spy:

Main versions.

At the mo, latest versions are 15 and 14. and, you have 2 versions of each, one called LTS ( long term support ), and a bleeding edge version. In general, LTS versions are more stable around older networking and internal components on lappys, Bleeding edge versions will give you speed and lower memory footprints.

disadvantages Win ver linux

Some games wont work ( but steam runs on linux )
Some specific programs wont work ( but theres usualy linux alternatives, or ways to get them to work in inux, with wine ( a program, not alcohol )
can be tricky to initialy get running

advantages

No inbuilt spyware that you can not close down
Your computers not wasting 50% of its processor and memmory do stuff you niether now about, need or want, ( netfraimwork )
99.9999999% virus and spyware free, and gets fixed fast when found
much more efficient on memmory and processor and diskspace.
Open office ( libra office ) and Gimp, are better than there windows alternatives.

Ok, the software, its not quite point click install, but. its legal and free, with a standard install of the above, you get office graphics and internet stuff,

Heres the main advantage with linux if you use a pc for more than just the internet. when you dig about, there is industrial standard software for free,

As a basic pc, once setup, very fast, very reliable, dosnt change if it doesnt really need to. As a task specific pc, 20*better than windows,

Possible hurdles

Win inrduced a boot system ( EFI ) that makes it harder to initially install windows with linux ( called a duel boot ). So i would try it off a usboot or cd ( livedisk ), then ask someone when your ready to install to walk you through it. or buy a second hand hdd from your local CES or ebay ( usually £ 10 - 15 will get you around 320gig+. and install on it own on a disk ( I do this ), it take 2 mins to swap disks in a lappy, in a PC you can just assign a boot order.
crazy council ( as in local council,NELC ) as a member of the public, i don't get mad, i get even

Thanks for that CC have a Lenovo G 500 1TB Lappy, and an ancient Acer Desk Top with only GB may try Linux on that if I can get a bigger memory for it.
You help and suggestions are much appreciated.
