    Re: Windows 10

I suppose I should not have generalised, as there are always going to be batches of printers that do not work for one reason or another.

I would imagine HP will tell you to uninstall the old drivers first, regardless of anything else and the only thing different to their usual methods of installation.
HP rely heavily on their own software to detect the O.S. and install the correct drivers.

        Re: Windows 10

I dunno about Win 10 (still haven't got the download shortcut), but I can say Win 7 kicks as*.

Been using it for a while now and decided to upgrade my PCs mobo, cpu and memory, but retaining my SSD with my OS on it.

I expected all sorts of problems with system drivers (which are on the *old* OS setup).

Installed the new hardware, turned on, entered the BIOS and set the parameters needed. Rebooted and after a few moments (literally) Win 7 installed all new drivers and booted straight into windows. I was up and running in no more than half an hour and 3 restarts !!!
They were out to get me!! But now it's too late!!

lol, i still had one on XP till a few weeks ago, i had a fightwit win 7, to get a stable enough system for some of the devices and programs i use. I do see the sense in windows 10 ( combining the same software for phone, phablet and lappy ), but i think the layout, the gui and most of the servies running in the background, don't make a lot of sense. who really wants to go though 5 GUIs that dont really give you the info you needed, to get to a system settings...

Hololense is its best selling point of win10 ,, https://youtu.be/iu0gM0_vxIM but that will be on linux sooner or later ( soon as the hacker community get there hands on the headset )

            Re: Windows 10

I tried again, actually got the first screen not happy with it at all. It had, wiped printer drivers, I use a usb lead.
I was able to revert back to seven and have reinstalled the printer question being how do I get rid of that icon for Windows 10 and how do I stop it trying to download it again?

At last after hours of piddling around printer/W10 /openoffice now fully working.
Had to uninstall printer prog and all of open office, download new HP W10 compatible printer
prog. and updated open office 4.1 1.

                third update lol

                more interesting

Microsoft is making some big changes as to how it handles patching and updating with Windows 10. Those using Windows 10 Home must take all features, fixes and security updates from Microsoft as soon as the company makes them available via Windows Update. (There is a not so readily discoverable blocking tool meant to enable users to temporarily block drivers and patches.) Windows 10 Pro, Enterprise and Education users have
so, that means Microsoft or its partners can forcibly install anything they want, i wandered what the catch would be to giving it way free, there it is.

I managed to disable the notifications and hide the little icon but cannot get rid of it all together.
Some little niggles with 7 now that I did not have before ( as in previous post, printer reinstalled and some issues with my e mails and having to re enter pass words) slowly getting back and will not be reinstalling 10! :tinysmile_aha_t:

                    Good morning DT.

I've found that very few of the items I use that require passwords will allow me to stay signed in, the " remember me" tick boxes have disappeared.
Had to uninstall office suite and all in one printer and a dedicated fax/printer and get new drivers and additions to support W10 for one like me not technical in the slightest a full day was needed to get the printers up and running properly.

Have to say the HP help line was extremely helpful.

Good luck! Not technical in the slightest myself.
But do wish that I hadn't tried it out!
When, and if, I get a new computer will try again!

I am used to slowish connections here as we are, quite literally, at the end of the line.
I have two devices, this Android, and the Laptop.
If you use computers a lot or have a business to run it seems to me that Microsoft have , yet again, brought out a new system and then, almost at once, have to provide updates and patches.
Hope you get your problems sorted and a thanks, from me, to the young assistant at a local shop who told me what to do to hide the Windows update icon, the only other way would be to do complete re install but would need to save all my files, already done this, just in case! :-)

You've been listening to BT (or whoever) support again! Everybody is at the end of the line. That's how the phone system works, you have your line to the exchange., You are at one end, the exchange is at the other. Simples!

Had to explain to one "support asistant" the meaning of " as the crow flies" when they insisted our " exchange is only four and a half miles away!" :tinysmile_hmm_t2:
