I’m excited because I am off to Ireland as on Friday I have the first meeting with the mediator who will handle my initial contact with my daughter!

Many thanks for all the lovely messages of support. I am as nervous as hell –very surreal situation however I am staying in my sister’s house and will be molly- coddled to death. She is very ‘roaring fires and sloe gin’ so getting plenty of comfort. Better not turn up tomorrow smelling of gin!:nono:

How did Christmas become such a horrible feast of Mammon?

Well, I'm not playing anymore. We have a family pact for either NO presents (except for the little ones) or nothing over (absolute max) a fiver. I'm so sick and tired of giving and receiving stuff we really don't want and none of us can afford and the associated anxiety etc..

I am beginning to agree with Bah Humbug, never thought I would.
I remember getting nearer and nearer THE day, searching the house looking for parcels to intercept afore they went to Santa, writing the list and yes watching it go up a real fire chimney straight to the man himself.
Having to take the dreaded Fennings Fever Cure cause the excitement made me appear ill.
Walking along the main road and the crib and Nativity scene were there to collect money fro the needy and then it was never stolen.
Then the middle years where Santa was a gonner, wishing fer a pony I knew would never happen till mum and dad won at Bingo or on the Pools.
Then the teenage years, getting money and clothes hoping they would help on the way to meeting the lad of yer dreams.
Then the works do and hoping you still had a job and friends on the following Monday lol.
Then the years when you have your own kids and you doing it all over again only bigger and better if you can.
Bloody ell best get off right off topic as per lol.
Note no religious word in all that clap trap but that's how it was.

Nothing new in Black Friday and the news reports remember the sales after Xmas in the Sixties and seventies??

I remember when Xmas started on Xmas eve when mum and dad would get the food in put up the decs and we sat down and started to enjoy it.
Now the crap starts in September by the time 25th Dec comes its the biggest anti-climax there is.

                            Nostalgia time for us wrinklies.
Besides all the above I remember Christmas cake & pudding being made in August. just before going on summer holidays. and having a wish as I stirred the mixture.

Then just before Xmas Dad coming home with a whole crate of oranges (from his Israeli colleagues) {a treat in the late 40's}, and a turkey (complete with feathers) to be hung for a week in the spare cold bedroom.
Then there was midnight mass, followed by turkey giblet soup before bed and the attempt at keeping awake for Father Christmas.

And now its a big headache!!!!!!!!!
