  • Your car is not thief proof

Only for the car buffs I think
Although I am an old retired auto spark, I keep up with the latest info on car auto electrics and electronics.
I have just been reading an article in an Car electonic service magazine I get every 3 months .....It reveals that no matter what type of anti theft device you car is fitted with....professional car thieves can steal it with no damage to the car within 10 seconds..this is an absolute fact.....certain cars are being targeted and stolen to order.

As usual its the smart phones that are doing it......the thieves use
a down loaded app onto their smart phone and away they go .........the technology these days is unbelievable..........there is NO Defence ...the only answer they have come up with so far is reliance on a tracking device that works separately from the cars ECU...this doesn't stop the car being stolen ..but can trace and find where it is after its been stolen.
    The mind boggles

However, if you lock yourself out of your own car or the (opening device) fails, then you're absolutely stuffed...xx

Coathanger still sometimes works, I'm told. It's how to avoid that filthy noise (the alarm) without immobilising the engine...then the AA has to come... then you can't be towed without ruining the (differential?), so a lorry has to be called... then you get home at 3 am...believe me, I know...

If you have a smart phone.....pay for and down load the appropriate app ....you don't need your key fob or coat hanger or kid with a screwdriver....the app takes the place of your key.
OPens the door Swiches the alarm off, starts the car just as if you were doing it with the key
That is what is frightening about this device.

Now I KNOW why I prefer tractors and quadbikes ... Not much point in making one of them that can be started with a phone app. Good bit of info tho', I know some people who might need some sort of tracker on their cars :tinysmile_hmm_t2:

                  Hiya des8,
When I was a full time self employed auto spark I carried spare rotor arms for most cars British and foreign vehicles as their failure was the cause of a lot of old CB and early electronic ignition failures............quite a few car thieves also carried a few as well..for the most desirable cars...so to the real car thief removing a rotor arm from a car they wanted caused them no problem.

What I did locally for car owners was I designed a little device that consisted of a fuel shut of valve that I inserted in the fuel line underneath the car. this was controlled by a timer relay which only opened by a swithch that was hidden in the car that only the owner ( and myself of course) knew where this was...if this switch was not switched to the on position before the car was started the timer came in to operation and shut the fuel off.....car just slowed and came to a stop after about 2 to 3 minutes and couldn't be started again until the " hidden" switch was switched on.

This was much better than the switch that cut the ignition supply because all a car thief had to do to overcome this was lift the bonnet run a wire direct to to the ignition coil from the battery.

That was along time ago ...I'm getting on a bit now (77) and retired from the auto industry...nearly retired from the industry of life as well:tinysmile_twink_t2:

Yep, but who carries a pocket full of rotor arms now?

Mind you I carry a spare distributor already set up, so if there are probs I can just replace it.
