  • What's in a name (or named and shamed :()

So,,,answering a thread this morning the subject of name changing came up (this was a surname) and it got me to thinking (ok,,stop laughing).....who has got the name they have and why.......

    My story:-
I am the youngest of 6,,I know for a fact my brother should have been called Philip,,he isn't..never known why.
When I was getting married for the first time I needed my Birth Cert,...and my Mum couldn't produce it..and was very reluctant to let me get it? Why? It started all sorts of things in my imagination,,was I adopted? Am I the child of a famous person? Is my Dad REALLY my Dad? Oh God,,tell me she's really my Mother.
So...I applied for my Birth Certificate by going to the Register Office,,paying a fee and waiting for them to give me a copy......waiting......waiting.........waiting.... ..
Finally a clerk came out and asked me if I knew that my Birth Cert was a 'matter of public record' and did I want both Certs...2 Birth Certs.????
What happened was...my dear old Dad finally remembered to register me a month after I was born (Nov 26th)......so a month later made it near Xmas...office parties..lots of booze..and Daddy Dearest was slightly 'p***sed as a fart when he rocked up at Register Office.
All went swimmingly well.....until he decided to name me Nicholas John !!!!!!!!!!! Now,I admit I have 'balls' (as in scared of little)..but I don't have a nut hut...I am totally female......and luckily, the Registrar picked up on this but too late to alter the BCert..so that one is null and void,,but still exists so is a legal document.
So,,finally my REAL BC was produced..I'm female but again Daddy Dearest tripped up and couldn't remember what I was called so guessed and named me Nicola Jayne.....all well and good..except Mum wasn't amused I'm told..as I should be called Persephone Felicity!!!!
Still,,could be worse.....if he'd done what he said he was going to do I would be called 'Annie Florence or Florence Annie...........................
