Re: Dogs and grapes do not mix
and here's a list of other foods to be avoided
http://www.aspca.org/pet-care/virtua...hazardous-dogs
We have owned, bred and (occasionally) shown dogs for over 40 years.
We have a rule: we don't eat dog food & the dogs don't eat ours.
It works well except the dogs don't think it applies to them and if the occasion arises they will pinch ours:tongue2:

Re: Dogs and grapes do not mix
And yet our little 15 year old Chihuahua has never eaten dog food. She has meat and two veg with gravy daily.
She loves her veg, and the very occasional chocolate morsel and it's a very rare occasion she has a tummy upset.
PS: It's alot cheaper as well !!!They were out to get me!! But now it's too late!!

Re: Dogs and grapes do not mix
When we first owned dogs we used to cook paunch and mix with biscuit for them (very smelly).
We now use proprietary dry food and it costs less than 50p per day per dog (salukis).
And as for chocolate, basa, that's a no no. No amount of chocolate is good for a dog and they should never ever be given it. It is one of the most common causes of poisoning in dogs. Just over a gram of chocolate per kilo of dogs weight is sufficient to cause symptoms of poisoning and its half life in a dog is getting on for a day (off hand can't remember exact period but it is long enough for a daily "treat" to build up to a toxic level). I would never risk giving chocolate to a dog.

I fed my dog grapes!
It just gave a little wine!

Re: Dogs and grapes do not mix
Problem remains that if a dog is given chocolate in small amounts it could start a craving.
Dog then perchance has access to large quantity of chocolate (a sponge cake?).......
Probably don't have a problem with a chihuahua reaching the table top tho':biggrin1:

Re: Dogs and grapes do not mix
Not sure about walnuts, but I do (vaguely) recall with much regret "doing a Ruby Murray" one weekend, after having paved the way with various hydrocarbon-based aggregates. After an exhausting day of what was considered to be "Crazy Paving," I did indulge in our dear Ruby - and we even invited somebody's dear Naan. Once the battle had been won and lost, our dearest Essex Pointer "Trace," curled up at the bottom of the bed - as they do - and we all snored in harmony until dawn.
But at daybreak there was only a two-part harmony in the parping and snoring, and in tears I realised that Trace had parked herself far too close to the B flat organ pipe at the bottom of the bed, and floated off into eternity.
You DO get attached to these critters, though, don'tcha ? Out of respect for the foul-smelling mutt, I forced myself to go through the entire 'Star of India' menu that week - and the neighbours will NOT forget my journey of penance. Much respect to Ruby and Trace. :hungry: uke:
