About a fortnight ago, I bought myself a Panasonic Lumix G2 camera.

These are the first results from it and, whilst they could probably benefit from tighter cropping, I'd say they are adequate.

I'd say that it is very easy to get passable results from it, even if one did not know how to adjust it for better photos.

Of course, I've been using cameras of various sorts ever since I bought an old, twin lens reflex back in 1974, so I could (and sometimes still do) take photos with all the automatic functions turned off. The Lumix G series of EVIL cameras - Electronic Viewfinder, Interchangeable Lens - are good to use however inexpert one might be but, unless you need to be able to swap the lens, a bridge camera such as a Fuji Finepix would probably be a better choice. One thing to avoid, in my opinion, is a power zoom - they never seem to stop where you want and a manual zoom is so much easier to control.

Oh ****. If you'd mentioned this two weeks ago I had one still under warranty to give away (lovely camera, bought a new upgraded one) but it was snapped up last week! I have a Finepix as my second camera - handy to sling in a bag and without all the weight of a DSLR plus extras. I have to say, I am most impressed with the versatility and capability in extremes. You might look at the HS30 EXR - it is snappable at high quality from the box and if you read the manual, you could find little it won't do in a light and easy load.

Cleverclogs - nice. I think the first suffers from a less than ideal subject and too tight a focus on the centre - the indifferent surrounding area loses the shot. The second is well focussed and keen, but I would personally think it might have benefitted from an off centre shot with a framing within those wonderful buds. I love the third one which is almost 3D - it would look well as a 3D shot.

My BIL swears by www.dpreview.com when it comes to buying cameras. I have to say it's mind boggling what can be bought and the prices you can pay.

The Panasonic Lumix is a good camera. Panasonic always have made good kit. Their broadcast and digital cinematography cameras take some beating. The movie "Quartet" was shot using a Panasonic Varicam digital cinematography camera. You picked well, Cloggy. And the pics have come out well, too. Don't forget the Rule of Thirds that Eloise is explaining in her post.

I, myself, have a Fuji Finepix 6500FD DSLR. The Finepix is a good range of cameras, IMHO, and I've read good reviews on them.
