    *****Mini Rant warning*****

Since when have schools had Open Mornings ? In my day we had an 'Open evening', where the parents went along and talked to the teachers, and the kids hid in the corner scared shitless that they were in for a telling off when they got home lol.

Seems to me that there's no consideration for the people that are actually working and the businesses who are losing staff hours because of it, or is it that no parents actually go to work nowadays :bolt:

    Never heard of 'open mornings'
Had to turn out in the evenings..face to face meetings with teachers who made me feel like a naughty kid,,trundle from table to table to be told what I already knew..Jack hates Art,,excels in Music and PE and coasts along in the other subjects..bright boy..could try harder. And the fact his DAD was there too made it purgatory.
Open 'mornings' aren't exactly conducive to a working parent. are they?

This smacks of sexism and the false belief that men go out to work while women stay at home to look after the children :washing:reggers: so are always available to attend Open Mornings.

The only Open Mornings I experienced were in the independent sector where schools put on a big display to tout for business from prospective parents.

Where does it smack of sexism?? If it said Mothers Open Morning,I'd agree but it doesn't.

I hated parents evening and I used to fight back. When Miss Frank said "Plan B Junior has learnt nothing in the Maths class this term", I swiftly replied "which means you obviously haven't taught her properly" and moved on to the next table :drama:

At least at parents evening we got a glass of wine so that was an incentive and it probably guaranteed a better turn-out than an Open Morning msl:

I'll be honest..I stopped going to them after 2nd year (work was more important) I justified it thus:-
              a) If Jack was in trouble I'd know that day
b)If Jack was being marvellous he'd boast that day
c)He had a Homework Diary,,they could pass messages that way
d)He got annual reports,,I could either kiss him or kill him then.
e)He never bunked school,,reckoned he had more freedom AT school,,plus Mama aint pretty when angry.
f)He knew from the get-go that his future depended on his education..

              Kid turned out just fine

yep I have heard of open mornings.. but tbh I have only been to one.

I have as you know 3 kids, and the teacher make appointments for you, so they put you to be in 3 different classes at the same time, but you can't take the other 2 in to the meeting as you will be distracted, and no one is available to look after the other 2 as they are your responsibility, but then you have to go cos its important... what tripe!!

They have this reading journal thing I'm meant to sign every night to say The Girl reads, but then I get letters saying "The Girl would do better if she would lift her head from a book.."

you're a teacher, put 2 and 2 together, she loves reading so.. she READS!!!

Jack absolutely hated Art....there isn't an artistic bone in his body (nor mine,,a 2 year old can draw/paint better than me). So,,Art teacher decided my boy would do detention for not producing a legible scrawl. Not my son,,I was off down the school...walked into classroom, told Jack to follow Mother..straight up to Head's office and by the time we left Jack was no longer attending Art classes and I was paying for extra drum tuition when he should have been in Art

To which my mum answered "Seeing as she told me she will marry the same day as the pope that is a good thing.. and seeing as she wants to drive a lorry.. I cant see needlework helping much!"

I went to a very posh all girls school (don't ask,,must have been a fluke, got 99.2% in my entrance exam)
                      My report card read:-
Whilst it is appreciated that Nicola has been raised to believe her opinion counts, calling the Chair of Governors a 'bloated pompous egomanical windbag' just because she disagreed with his policys was not ladylike nor was it necessary for her to bellow it out in a packed hall of prospective parents and students.
We appreciate her passions but would ask that you speak to her to try and harness her 'enthusiasm' for debate.'

My Dad laughed his head off and bought me a new dress msl:
