Re: Getting nowhere with a school

Sorry but I'm with the school on this one, if you send your child to a school then you abide by its rules and its uniform, if you don't want to or can't then you don't send the child to that school - simples.

its hardly fair to expect a kid to go to school in clothes 4 sizes too small sapphy.

She is in the right colour and looks smart, its simply that the uniform trousers stop at 12-13 years old and A is in an adult size 12! and what does it matter about her socks?? you can't see them!!

If its the case of well don't send her to the school surely that's saying she's too tall for school??

Labs,,I hope you realise I was talking very tongue in cheek,,I certainly wouldn't have stormed in and caused chaos.
I went to my sons school because Jack came home and started fitting,,he had been been charged into a brick wall by the thuggy kid (they were 5) and smacked his head and for some reason best known to the school noone told me so as you can imagine I was baying for blood.I did all my shouting and swearing and cursing at my Mums house so I was literally spent by the time the school opened the next day.
The thug was not allowed to play in the playground for a week, his Mum had to collect him and bring him back and believe me,she wasn't impressed.
And yes,,you are spot on ,,kids lie...yours did,,mine did and all of them do.

It means the school should be reasonable, listen to you put your concerns over calmly and rationally, and think whether they need to make an exception or get in bigger uniform (depending on whether they're very 'large' for their age, or whether a load of children fall into this category.

I'd agree with Sapphy it should be agreed through the school though. Equally the school has to listen!

Totally agree re the trousers Puff, and I think that the parents and Headteacher should negotiate on this one, but as far as the rest of the uniform then surely the parents should conform, I think a little give and take is needed, so why can't they get smart trousers and sew the sodding logo on ?

Re: Getting nowhere with a school

It is very difficult to support the teachers when they are blatantly ignoring what happens.

Sis says when she went in to school she was spoken to like she was a child and was told "Our Policy is of extending the childrens circle of friends" when she asked about J's stammer and the ridicule she is receiving she was told point blank, we didn't know she stammered, until she produced a letter from the Head about strategies for helping J in class, and asked if that was from the school or not?

She complained about the whole situation of she cannot dress A for school due to her height and the Head said, buy plain black trousers and we will allow her to wear that, but she is still bringing home detention slips.

I have said to Sis, take the kid out the school cos that's discrimination... but as Sis says, why should her kids be driven out of school for being tall?

I was slippered regularly. One really nasty teacher used a leather soled one and insisted on it being on your bare arse. We always used to come out and face the line of impending victims saying, 'No, it doesn't hurt!' then off to the toilets to have a good cry lol.

Re: Getting nowhere with a school

Back in the 70's when I was at school, the punishment policy was it didn't matter when in the week the "crime" was committed - Friday was punishment day! Friday morning assembly all the "naughties" were lined up at the side of the stage and one by one climbed the steps and had to bend over the desk placed centre stage purely for that reason, then the boys were caned by the Headmaster and girls were slippered by the female Deputy Head. There were very few repeat offenders (apart from the usual suspects who you knew must have been off sick that week as their names hadnt been called out) as the shame of crying in front of the whole school was quite the deterrant. ..... oh the good ol' days!!

My old woodwork teacher used to deal with inattentiveness to his demonstrations of technique by throwing whatever lay at hand in the direction of the culprit. His aim was quite good, too. Usually, he just threw an off-cut of wood or the hand-brush for cleaning the bench although, on one occasion, he threw a chisel and the pupil was carted off to hospital to be stitched together again. I do hope someone wiped the blood from the chisel before it went rusty.

Yes, schools are rarely fatal these days.

Perhaps that is half of the problem?
