      Interesting quotes, thanks. However ...

This is not law - it's hot air.

“As part of this process we are also reviewing Atos capacity to provide recordings for those claimants who currently request one. Additional machines have been ordered. However a large scale purchase of machines in the absence of an evaluation of the process is not effective use of public money. Although there have been increases in requests these still represent only a small percentage of overall work capability assessments.
'We are reviewing ...', which then becomes 'not an effective use ...'. That's a clear negative.

“In the meantime, while Atos will do all that they can to accommodate requests for audio recording there may be times when the service cannot be offered, for example where it has not be possible to get access to recording equipment on the date/time of the WCA. In these circumstances clients will be told in advance that their request cannot be accommodated and offered a later date.”
'Do all they can'. Nice vague phrase, that. So that's a negative too.

If the minister says that in Parliament I assume IN PRACTICE it is a right.
Not until it's law it isn't.

"Unlikely - they aren't that stupid." Really, and on what do you base that opinion? It's not my experience of them.
My experience has been of a certain animal cunning combined with innate viciousness.

Not all rights are enshrined in law.
For example PPCs have the right to mail speculative invoices. The recipients have the right to pay, shred or use as bumf. Neither right is enshrined in law.
If one goes to a meeting, no matter with whom, one has the right to have it recorded. The other party has the right not to have it recorded.
If both parties agree it may be recorded on a hitech twin device. If that is not available parties may agree on using individual recorders.
If one party declines it is not impossible to come to a compromise without going to court or looking for a law (common, statute or case?).
In reference to ATOS the big cheese has publicly agreed that the assessments can be recorded, and on their twin recording devices. In the face of that it is difficult for the assessor to refuse.Just stand up to them.
I maintain the individual has the right to record the meeting, even if not enshrined in an Act of Parliament.

My personal experience is to have recorded meetings with LEA's, Planning Departments and Health Authorities. Atos cancelled.

Now you have the right to respond yet again. But as this thread was about Wales01man's wife I shall exercise my right not to respond further.

Since Atos is a (vampiric) business making vast profits for itself whilst contracted by the government to perform a service at a pre-contracted rate then surely the above is disingenuous; the costs for tools to do it's job with the utmost fairness and efficiency should come out of the obscene profits, not a further call on the public purse.

Capita's faux TV Licensing "Visiting Officers" don't like having their verbal diatribe recorded on video. You only have to look on YouTube to see one after another turn and run away when they realise they are being recorded.

you can also take your own recording equipment, however you have to be able to provide ATOS with a copy of the recording before you leave the interview.

Their standing instructions require them to leave at once if a recording device is produced.

That speaks volumes. It's exactly what Capita's faux TV Licensing "Visiting Officers" are told to do if a householder produces a video camera or starts recording them on a phonecam. Can you see a pattern emerging?
