  • Vanishing 'Thanks' Button

I've got a problem with my 'Thanks' button - it keeps vanishing (so if anyone thinks I've been antisocial and not thanked posts I would normally have done, you know why now!!!)

When I refresh the page, it reappears, only to vanish again if I make a post.

Does anyone else have the problem, or does anybody have a solution please?

    (All cache etc.... cleared)

    Thanks.

Actually I have noticed this too but it seems sporadic, not all the time.

Yup, I've noticed it too. Will investigate.........

"Although scalar fields are Lorentz scalars, they may transform nontrivially under other symmetries, such as flavour or isospin. For example, the pion is invariant under the restricted Lorentz group, but is an isospin triplet (meaning it transforms like a three component vector under the SU(2) isospin symmetry). Furthermore, it picks up a negative phase under parity inversion, so it transforms nontrivially under the full Lorentz group; such particles are called pseudoscalar rather than scalar. Most mesons are pseudoscalar particles." (finally explained to a captivated Celestine by Professor Brian Cox on Wednesday 27th June 2012 )

Yes it's been happening to me too but I thought it was pilot error :smash:

On another website you have the option to hit the *Remove Your Thanks* button when you've had second thoughts the following morning :ranger:

It is possible that it isn't a site problem per se. I noticed a sudden "problem" with another site recently, one that I never used to have before. Annoyed hell out of me and them because we couldn't figure out what had changed. After weeks of trying everything I realised that it happened in one web browser (IE9) and not another. That made me think laterally and I switched to compatability mode for that site - and suddenly everything worked fine. My best guess was that an automatic update had resulted in something being just slightly incompatable. It may be something as simple as that.

              Re: Vanishing 'Thanks' Button

It could be, but I suspect not, as the chances of all of us who have noticed it are minimal.

I use the latest version of Firefox all the time if that helps at all.

Thanks are strange anyway. I confess to being guilty of reading too much into them at times. I amy or may not be the only one to do that.

Some use thanks as a sign they've read a post; some use thanks as a way of saying they agree with the post; some to say they've found it interesting, whether or not they agree with it etc....

Some obsessive people, like me, try to work out how certain people use the thanks button. I don't plough through posts looking at them, but I find it interesting to look, and tend to remember which posts were thanked, and by whom. This is something I wish to shed, as I honestly believe it's an unhealthy way of looking at the site. It can (it hasn't (yet) with me) cause paranoia, and even arguments.

Thus losing my thanks button is a shame. As for trying to work out who uses it for what - don't go there, it's honestly not good for you. lol

              Dare I say...............?

              Thanks!

Yup I agree, I'm using Safari, so i guess its happening in most versions.

Whereas greyhounds chase a rabbit going round the track in front of them, there's a banker running like crazy just out of shot on that still!

Sometimes I've got an error message when I hit the thanks button, but that normally only happens on the iPad. I use Firefox on PC and Safare on Mac and hasn't happened to me on those platforms.

I think I know where Labman was coming from, the thanks feature is used a lot more on another site , where there was often pressure to thank posts because not doing so was seen as a sign of dissent, especially if you were a mod. The feature is used so much, there is a post that attracted a whopping 86 thanks!!!
