    The importance of continuity should also be considered. If this extra tuition is to reinforce tuition already given by a teacher but perhaps not fully understood in a class environment, then it makes sense to keep the one2one sessions in-house.

      On the other hand, if the teaching methods at the school are failing your daughter for whatever reason, a different approach would seem to be a very good idea - especially if your daughter wants this herself. It's far more important to her than it is to the school.

            Labman - I am sorry to say that an even more cynical explanation has just now occurred to me (proffered on the basis that all views might help) - which is that the school are covering their a$$ as they know they have failed your daughter and they know you would rather seek more effective help elsewhere. In the event of your D not doing as well as she should they could then produce evidence that blah :blah:blah xxx
