  • Censors battle for Manhunt 2 ban

British censors are seeking a judicial review to block the sale of controversial video game Manhunt 2.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7148636.stm

SHOULD GAMES OF THIS NATURE BE ALLOWED ON GENERAL RELEASE??

IS THERE A CONNECTION BETWEEN VIDEO GAMES SUCH AS MANHUNT 2 AND THE VIOLENCE THAT HAS BEEN SEEN IN RECENT YEARS ON OUR STREETS??

IS IT THE FAULT OF THE VIDEO GAME PROGRAMMERS, THE CLASSIFICATION BOARD OR PARENTS WHO ALLOW THEIR KIDS TO PLAY THEM??

AS DAVID COOKE (director of the BBFC) SAID.........
"There is sustained and cumulative casual sadism in the way in which these killings are committed, and encouraged, in the game."

I dont personally think they should be allowed to even be made, but I don't like any violence and don't see how a violent video game is appealing in the first place.

Re: Censors battle for Manhunt 2 ban

What annoys me is the constant banning of stuff for our own good. Who are these people to tell me (a perfectly sane and well adjusted adult) what I can and can't do in my own house?

I'm not defending violent films/games, or anything else, but I am sick to death of the tax or ban culture that seems to be prevalent in our society these days.

I grew up watching Hammer horror films, other assorted horror films, I read the Exorcist at age 11, but I'm ok, I played Pacman..... I don't eat everything in sight while running away from ghosts.

It's about time people were made to take responsibility for their own actions without having to resort to blamin outside influences.... jeeesh if you are going to say that the films you watch and the games you play make you what you are then for heaven's sake start watching/playing something else!

Sol, I'm with you - my children play PS2 games and the like that are probably too old for their ages as far as the guidance on the games is concerned anyway.

However, so far they have successfuly managed not to machine gun anyone to death!

They don't take the games seriously, they know it is not real life - they have made that distinction between reality and make-believe and they have got this from their parents.

Good job I don't drive in real life like I do on the PS2! I'd have a licence full of points and a trail of dead bodies behind me! I can't get to grips with the controls at all. I'm with Enaid, I like Mario. And that one with the dragon was good as well...

Grand Theft Auto - Violent and sexual explicit nature

Call of Duty - Violent nature

                      Doom - Violent nature

The Sims 2 - Promotes a promiscuous lifestyle

They will need to ban Flight Simulator as apparently the 9/11 hijackers practised on that.

Oh and ban Space Invaders cos it is telling us that we can't have friendly inter-galatic relations.
