Greetings from the sick ward!

Yes, after 2 weeks of playing Florence Rosengale.. I have finally succumbed to the dreaded lurgy!!! :sick:

I have been banished to bed and got told off for sitting up folding laundry I got caught!!! still it could have been worse, earlier the kids came in to see me and erm..... :bedjump:

So, I'm bored and got to thinking, as it's coming up to xmas.. what in your opinion is the best christmas song ever made?
And if he came to adults, what would Santa bring you? I know I would end up with a lump of coal, but right now Gale Harold and a lemsip would be nice!!

My suggestion for the best ever xmas song (or one of them) is Bryan Adams Run Rudolph Run!!

Leclerc is absolutely correct - that is THE only "Christmas" song that has any musical merit (and it's brilliant).

Personally I dread Christmas having grown up with a violent, publicly charming but privately monstrous alcoholic. Even though he is long dead (and anyone who shares this experience will know that you also love them) and even though I now have a wonderful family, the dread remains. Most Christmas music is just so horrible - so naff and sentimental, but with the sinister end to the day implied in the slush.

"Power of Love" is also a brilliant song but shouldn't be tarred with the "Christmas" brush as that will make it hackneyed. Somehow the "Fairytale of New York" has escaped this - I think it's partly the contrast in voices but also the cynicism and lack of glistening sentimentality. Genius!

I love "The fairytle of New York" too, not a lover of Christmas myself, had happy childhod ones, ut lter a drunken husband who spoilt every Xmas by making me and the kids miserable,so love a quiet one now, none of my children [now gown up like Christmas either] a shame really

Me Dad was a huge drinker,but Xmas as the youngest of 6 was always wonderful,till I grew up a bit and saw the devastation his (and other family members) drinking caused,,the rows I was spared from as a child became a horrible reality.
Then,,I had my own child,and every Xmas was wonderful again (brief 2nd marriage upset 3 of them but thats a whole different story best left untold)
Now.........Xmas is absolutely fabulous (pardon the pun),,in fact today,,we took delivery of our 6ft REAL tree yay!! Rob loves Xmas,,and his joy is infectious,,specially at the end of possibly the crappiest year of his life,bless him .And my vote is for Fairytale of NY ,,and Mario Lanza singing 'Silent Night'.

Christmas in our house meant only one thing...

Dad liked a drink or 4, but he would always say, its not the answer to the worlds woes! Even now our tree goes up on the old git's birthday and in his memory, and I know I refer to him as the Old Git but thats out of pure love.

When I hit 16 I got a job in a pub, and dad said "No daughter of mine will be a serving wench!!" To the day he died I was Wench and he was Old Git! I would love, if I may to share his favourite christmas song "It's not xmas till you hear it Wench!"
