  • A cold remedy.. Puff style.

Ok, its winter, the season of bugs and germs and sneezes in cold breezes (as my dad used to say). It is also time that a few of nature's remedies got an airing!

These are from my ex bf's mum and my late mother in law Ethel (Sleep easy mum, love you).
There is nothing in these that can actually hurt you, but I suggest if you are pregnant, or your sick one is under 2, check with the doctor first.

    Mum's Breath Easy Bath Vapours.

VERY easy, but boys ASK first before you do this one, I accept no responsibility for you using the Missus best stockings and getting an earful!!

Take a ladies stocking (muslin bag or such like) and put in to the toe about 2 tsp of the following.
    Sage
    Rosemary
    Marjoram
    Mint
and some orange peel. tie it round the hot tap and while you are in the bath, inhale the vapours.
You will cough like you smoke 30 a day, and smell like a leg of lamb, but you will feel amazing!!

    MK's Toothache relief.

Take 2/3 cloves, crush until you get the oil, apply to gum on a clean handkerchief.
    OR
get some liqourice oil and do the same thing! DO NOT USE ON A TEETHING BABY!!!

For a teething baby, thickly slice an apple, put in the fridge and give to chew on. same with carrots, baby corn and orange, but watch them while they chew obviously. cucumber water also helps sooth the gums. Liquorice oil provides horrible nappies!!!

More when I thnk of them.. or feel free to add your own

Bear in mind,I don't drink alcohol.....but...bottle of brandy, lip balm....good tissues..hot water..sugar..thick duvet and quarantine..you might be hanging out yer bum with hangover but you'll sweat the bugs out. I'm also a great believer in steam therapy. Mummy R had emphysema, and one of her most revolting remedys worked but you have to be made of strong stuff to use it,,half a spanish onion upside down on a plate of sugar,,take the elixir that comes out the onion,,or,,if you're witnessing the consumption drink the bottle of brandy above..

tiger balm applied to the temples helps relieve headache

if you are run down, try a supercharged smoothie!
blend some pommegrante, orange, red grape and cranberry with a little ice and a little yoghurt. its heavenly and helps boost your vitamins etc.

Another good one that my brother Matt swears by is watercress soup.
gently fry a finely chopped onion and some garlic until its translucent, add a little chicken stock and a packet of watercress, simmer until the watercress is cooked, and blitz until smooth, and add either creme fraiche or cream to finish!

handcream in the eye hurts like hell.

Tiger balm is awesome stuff!! nothing kills back pain like tiger balm!

Another good all natural remedy is sage for muscular pains, crush a few leaves up and make a paste, and then apply to the sore area.

Rosehip cordial is excellent for vit C.. AND its lush! collect as many rosehips as you can gather, not all from the same bush of course, and tie in a muslin bag. Simmer gently until the hips are soft and then push through the muslin to get the syrup. Take a spoonful of this syrup, and it does you so much good!!

Best cold remedy = spoon or three of Manuka honey dissolved in very hot water, juice of at least half a lemon plus slug or three of whiskey (can leave out the whiskey for babies etc but it does have amazing disinfectant qualities). Very good indeed when you can't do anything anyway....

Just remember to wash your hands after use, and before you use the bathroom. I forgot, once......:tinysmile_aha_t:
