im neutural about the royals, but im 100% against bullies and when a joke ends up with someone taking their own life, IMO the jokers should be taken to task over it.

Prank calls ARE funny I love the one where the guy calls Asda and gets them to say Tesco is cheaper, but thats not calling a hospital for information about a paitent, no matter who said paitent is!

My love and thoughts go to her and her family at this sad time.

I don't think it's so much people taking sides. I'd be surprised if most of us hadn't laughed at a hoax call at some stage. This one was tragic because it had a clear victim, like the raped 12 year old in the rather sensationalist story posted by EXC, which is really nothing to do with this particular event. It feeds off it by bringing up something from 3 years ago.

It was an accident, a very sad accident. However, one cannot escape the fact that with a little more forethought, in this case it might have been anticipated that someone may feel terrible for what they believed to be their part in this accident. EXC should certainly not feel terrible - any one of us could have posted that up.

Wales01 - Royalty don't choose their lives, they are born into them. Indeed their lives are far from stressful as every action is put under a microscope and spied on; hardly a fairytale existence never worrying. I am sure many of them would choose to be left to get on and live normal lives if they could.

However, pro or anti royal is a whole different debate. Here, we have a well intended joke which time has proven to have gone horrendously wrong. Our sole thoughts should be for her and her family.

Also please - no-one is responsible or culpable for their accident of birth - neither the "royal" nor the "born to a crack-head" - so no-one - not even the apparently privileged - is fair game

Exc, please dont blame yourself for posting this, you were not to know of the tragedy.

the people that should be hanging their heads in shame are the 2 dj's in australia, as Shell says.. what does KM's condition got to do with anyone but her immediate family.

The poor nurse needed councilling not vilifying and I know you all join me in saying, I wish her family all the love and sympathy in the world.
    RIP.

    Re: Queen's prank call

I personally think EXC's regret at posting this is probably mirrored by the Aussie guys who did the spoof. Some of the things we say and do here in LB "in jest" are taken the wrong way, or even hurt somebody far more than the little pin-prick which we intended. I myself could have so easily posted my own comments here and regretted them - I at least escaped that.

This poor woman died - it seems - because she felt responsible for this. Sure - we may say that those responsible are the Aussie 'shock-jocks' who played this prank - but I really believe they would not have done this if they knew what the outcome would be. In the same way that EXC would not have started this thread if he could see into the future. He's good - but not THAT good !!!

IMHO, it was a failure by the hospital to put sufficient security measures in place, leaving this poor woman open to such an attack. It was NOT her who gave out the details of Kate's condition. She simply did her job as best she could, with the obviously meagre training she had received, and passed the call to someone who - let's face it - SHOULD have realised it was a p1$$-take. It's almost as if that receptionist was handed a gun with one bullet, and told to "Do the decent thing."

This was something that went terribly wrong, I feel - yet those who were responsible for the prevention of such an unfortunate accident (for that is what I consider it to be) have so far refused to answer any questions. I hope they will be forced to do so in time. If there was any motive for the spoof phone-call, it most certainly wasn't to achieve the death of anyone - it was at best probably to expose the lax security at the hospital, and at worst just to have a laugh. That's the tragedy.

We have our Private Eye here, and I would expect Ian Hislop to have done the same thing, and I would have joined in the laughter. I believe we NEED this comedic dissent, and we must continue to exercise it - like our almost worthless vote - for as long as we are able. But tragedy has replaced that comedy, now, and the other mask is now evident. The REAL villain of the piece stood before the camera today, with his mute accomplice, I believe. It now remains to be seen if they have the balls between them to show some REAL respect for human life in the coming days. It would be good if HRH showed she gave a flying fig for those few who still give the same for her - like this good woman.

I sometimes wonder if Royalty spent too much time watching 'Alf Garnett' - or if WE did. "Till death Us Do Part" is not an oath of allegiance. This woman chose death as her departure from the infrastructure that supports our dear Royalty. Rightly or wrongly - I expect her departure to be treated with respect - and NOT kicked under the Axminster.

People forget that they are just there by accident of birth, they have done nothing to deserve what they think they are entitled to or to earn our respect. This country puts the royals on such a pedestal that people forget their common sense when any mention of the royals is made.

The nurse giving out the information should get fired however. She had no right giving out medical information to anyone, not even the queen (had the queen phoned).

Besides why do we have to have headlines in every newspaper and top of the news, telling us she's got morning sickeness? So what? Why does anyone care?
The purpose of the call was to get through to Kate Middleton herself where she too would have been humiliated and in my view that would have been even more egregious. Regardless of what you think of royalty, as any woman she has every right not to have people calling her in a hospital pretending to be her family, taking the pi$$ out of her and distributing the tape across the world.

The problem was that all calls usually go through to a switchboard (where they are well versed in fending off calls from outfits like The Sun who'd try anything to get any info) but the call was made at 5.30 am with just nursing staff left to answer.

Inca - it's obvious from your posts that you are a sensitive and compassionate person - but WTF does it matter about disciplinary procedures - the poor woman is dead and it is because of celebrity worship and the trivialisation of all human values in the wake of this. Very much doubt if anyone at the hospital was anything other than sincere, trusting and caring

No they were very supportive of her and so was the Palace. Though somehow I doubt that the 2 DJs who made the call are going to be in a job for too long.

The poor woman who died was actually only the one that answered the phone and then passed the call on to a nurse who subsequently discussed KMs condition. She did nothing wrong at all.
