They were wanting to speak to Kate rather than seeking to obtain her medical information. The DJ asks "how is her tummy bug?" the private nurse then discloses information the information to the DJ's. It was something that they certainly did not expect to get nor was that the intention of them.

It was absolutely the intention of them. In asking ''how is her little tummy bug'' the intention was clearly to obtain medical information (albeit a subsequent intention to speaking to Kate directly) and they did.

The DJ repeatedly attempted (and probably succeeded) in deceiving the nurse into believing that she was ''the Queen'' and ''Kate's grandmother'' (which even the Queen isn't anyway), by a method Lord Justice Leveson coined as 'blagging''. I'm sure that breeches OFCOM privacy regulations (which cover radio) as there's clearly no public interest defence and also the DPA.

To be fair I've said all this in previous posts.

Nobody is blaming the DJs ''because they received information about the condition of Kate Middleton'' but distinctly because it is an offence to seek to obtain medical information on an individual regardless of how crude the method. The second nurse is to blame in giving it but surely that was just a mistake. What the DJs did wasn't.

Realistically, we have both listened to the call(and I listened to the call again just now). They were wanting to speak to Kate rather than seeking to obtain her medical information. It was something that they certainly did not expect to get nor was that the intention of them. I suspect that there is no crime committed.

I would add that the DJ's will have to live with the unintended consequence of the call for much longer than anything else. Having read some of the comments on the radio's own social media page then clearly there is a lot of anger and hot air going on there.

I don't follow the same views as many of you. Jacintha Saldanha was a wife and a mother of two children. Her death is a tragedy but the issue we have here is of blame. We are seeking to blame two DJ's because they received information about the condition of Kate Middleton, not from Mrs Saldanha but from the private nurse looking after her. Had that nurse simply hung up on the two DJ's then that would be the end of the matter but the private nurse NOT Mrs Saldanha did so. I'm sorry EXC, but the prank was a classic one and one which was very surprising not because Mrs Saldanha put the person through but because the private nurse gave out information. Mrs Saldanha did not breach data protection and was not subject to disciplinary proceedings.

A tragedy that a nurse felt that she had no other option but to take her own life but I am afraid there must be more to it that simply picking up the phone to some prank callers and putting them through to a nurse.

I think it will come out that the nurse had other sad issues i find it hard to believe someone would top themselfs over a prank call, if that was all we had to worry about there would be no one posting here. my thoughts are with the family left to pick up the pieces. I've felt pretty low myself but hey! i want to see the end of the film.

As someone who has attempted to take his own life it is sad to see that someone has most likely died by her own hand over a prank. The rights and wrongs are secondary as woman, a mother, a wife, a nurse has lost her life. It is not easy to end your life. It is very hard indeed. What ever else was in her life at this time this was the straw that broke the camels back. She possibly thought she has let people down, not just that one of the patients is a Royal, but she was a patient, someone she dedicated her life to caring for as well as others. That is hard to take the feeling that you have let the side down and you can see she didn't. It is also a shock when you find she is a mother - with me when I am battling my demons my children come into mind, the future generation who will miss their grandfather and wonder what he was like. This overwhelmed her and it is so sad.
It does not take much to get to this stage if other factors are involved, which we don't know what they were in this case. Until you have been there and experienced it and come out of it alive then you don't know, you have no way of knowing the overwhelming pain and anguish. It has been calculated that over half of people who have dealt with a bailiff or other titles they have have suicidal thoughts, Some may do something drastic because of it. That is totally unacceptable. It just takes a silly prank, a remark, a threatening attitude or someone abusing you to set someone on the path to destruction or harm. The call may of been a prank but it has seriously backfired. I doubt that anything like this will happen again for sometime but some thoughtless jerk will try, Unfortunately there are a lot of them in this world and a good number are debt collectors.

The main reason for the call and everthing that followed was about someone who was not born into royalty and as im sure she is not thick she would know how her life would be or did she never read or be told about Williams mother as i said before i wish her no harm but unless things change with our medias obsession with those born into priveledge she will be the number one story when they want and the rest of us will have our own opinions on royalty

She may not have been born royalty, and she is not thick. I can tell you that as fact.

I'm not commenting further as, as I said our thoughts should be with the lady's family and we should not let this develop into a discussion about the royals. If you want that, start it elsewhere. Purely my opinion, and my final input into this thread, lest it be sidetracked further.

Inca - it's obvious from your posts that you are a sensitive and compassionate person - but WTF does it matter about disciplinary procedures - the poor woman is dead

Miss FM - purely for the record, you've missed Inca's point completely. She was wonering if disciplinary procedures night have exacerbated an uncomfortable situation for this poor lady and tipped her over the top, a perfectly possible scenario. that's WTF it matters.
