          Dear Beagles,

I have just returned from a trip home to London.Part of our trip was to the Saint Pauls Cathedral, where me and the kids lit candles and left (with the kind permission of the Friends of St Pauls) a small bunch of red roses (couldn't get a proper wreath) with the inscription, From the Beagles We Will Never Forget.
We also had a few moments at the Cenotaph, where the kids were impeccibly behaved.

          Sapphy, I kept my promise.

            Re: Lest We Forget

Living in a town with a lot of military connections, on Remembrance Sunday, not only do we remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the field of conflict, we also commemorate those civilians who lost their lives as the result of enemy bombing raids. In a lot of cases, enemy bombers would dump their bombs on their way back to mainland Europe after bombing cities such as Bristol, Birmingham and Coventry. A church that took a direct hit from an enemy bomb now stands as a permanent memorial to those civilians.
Life is a journey on which we all travel, sometimes together, but never alone.

                    Re: Lest We Forget

I've visited the Normandy beaches that in itself was an experience never to forget, there's Pegasus Bridge, Mulberry Harbour and loads of exhibitions, but I think the biggest eye opener for me was visiting Auschwitz, an amazing place, its weird everyone goes in there what I'd call normal and everyone who has ever visited comes out with a totally different outlook on life, it certainly changes you. Another place I think that people should visit is the German Underground Hospital in Jersey.

For me today has been a very emotional day, although I have personally not been involved with the military the many stories and images of people who are and have been has both humbled and made me count my blessings. I hope we never forget xx

I agree Di, I've spent today thinking about my mum and dad, both who were alive during the second world war, dad was in the RAF, both are passed over to the other side now, but doesn't stop me thinking about them.

One of the most moving places I have ever visited, and an unbelievably sad tale.
what about LIDICE which was completely destroyed by German forces in reprisal for the assassination of Reich Protector reinhard heydrich

Even those buried in the town cemetery were not spared. Their remains were dug up and destroyed

thats what the allies were fighting against, an ideology of superior perfection

My parents are Polish, of which i am very proud. They were evacuated in 1939 and ended up in east africa where my mother worked as a nurse to a specialised burns unit ( supporting the north africa campaign for both allied and german troops, mostly tank operative injuries. With the seriousness of these injuries, the section she worked in did not differentuate between allied or foe.....) as the injuries were so severe that grown men called, and at times, wished to crawl into the feotal position.
My father was seconded into the Royal Engineers and built bridges that the Germans bombed.

I was born in a field hospital in Stafforshire.

My brother served his tour of Londonderry in the late sixties. ( para )

My mates went to the Falklands.

My 3.5 year old daughter wears her poppy with pride.

                            So do i.

I had a pub in Docklands, one Saturday morning there was a big bang, the windows blew in on top of me in bed, my car ended up in the Thames, my ex had gambled the insurance money, in one fell swoop we ended up with no home, no business and no future, it was the Army guys who helped everyone out, they were fantastic.
