Do not pay it if the children do not reside in this country either

well, if it comes in to force it will cripple us, unless I get my job

I think it should be if you have never worked and have gone straight on benefits, no help, but if you have worked and are paying taxes, why shouldnt you get a bit of tax back?
I would love more kids, i've always wanted a huge family, but I can't afford to and so we stopped at 3, if the help with childcare stops, I might as well throw the application forms in the bin.

we need to help WORKING people to get those capable off working off the dole, and stop penalising working families and the disabled!

I wouldn't worry puff, they can't make it retrospective. You will continue to get the benefit for your three until they are ineligible.

I'm sure it will only affect those coming onto the system who already have two or less children.
They were out to get me!! But now it's too late!!

id much rather work and get no benefits, but the way things are structured you get no help to find work if you are not on benefits to begin with!

personally I would like to see a return to work officer, someone who can help ANYONE find a job, a personal advisor or everyone, not just single parents or under 16s, agreed we would have more people working in the job centre than in other jobs but its WORK!!

If it's just Child Benefit, then it's approx. £20 per week per child. If it extends to other benefits, then this will presumably include Child Tax Credit (with Childcare assistance). These are not 'forever' benefits, as they stop when the child reaches adulthood (at 16-18).

I have no argument with this in principle, and I do agree with Enaid's implied suggestion that there are other restrictions which I think could - and should - be made on benefit entitlement in general. If it is to be imposed, then I believe it should be done very carefully so that people who already have more than 2 kids aren't suddenly left high and dry. It would, IMO, be very wrong to just suddenly impose it as a 'blanket' restriction.

lets take a step back shall we

i agree in a sense that the welfare state is supposed to be their to support people in their time of need, a life line and not to be abused when needed

unemployed people who have children need education on why they consider it necessary to bring a new life into the world, and you are unable to give it your best start in life as you are struggling on benefits

but having children is a biological right, who the hell does that prat smith think he is dictating who can and who cannot start a family. just because you may have been made redundant or ill health retired is no excuse.

fair enough their are people who live off the dole and have large families but as usual

this stazi goverment are targeting the majority over the minority

what is needed is better social education on such things as money control and sex education in schools to prepare children into the working life

CHINA has a one child per house hold policy

go into rural china and its not unsual to see new born babies dead in the gutter as china does not recognise the exsistance of more than one child

child policy was established by Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping in 1979 to limit communist China's population growth. Although designated a "temporary measure," it continues a quarter-century after its establishment. The policy limits couples to one child. Fines, pressures to abort a pregnancy, and even forced sterilization accompanied second or subsequent pregnancies.

I consider China's non-recognition of 'subsequent' children to be draconian and inhuman, and I certainly wouldn't agree to that - but this is not dictating a restriction on the size of families, it is simply capping the amount of Child Benefit that a family can receive. However, it could of course be 'the thin end of the gangplank' - effectively putting on a slow boat to China.

I thoroughly agree with that, though.
