When you say company credit card, is it a limited company? was your OH a guarantor on the credit card agreement between the creditor and the company?

If he was not a guarantor, and the agreement was in the company name and its a limited company, then he would not be liable for it anyway.

In that case he need to write to them telling them he was an employee only and was not a party to the credit agreement between the creditor and limited company, neither was he a guarantor either. And as it was a limited company then they need to find the credit agreement to find out whos liable (if any guarantor was given by any of the directors) for the debt instead of pursuing him just because he was given a company credit card. Warn them you may seek legal action if they continue to hound him for a debt that the company itself was liable not its him or other employees, regardless of whether he our other employees were given a company card or not.
