I was brought up with Chinese and Turkish people all around me, believe me I learned loads from them and will forever be grateful, I suppose in a way they fueled my love of travel.
I know it sounds harsh saying ban immigration but we do need to close the borders, we can't just let anyone in willy nilly, I suppose the only other way will be to only allow people with qualifications that are needed here in here, if that makes sense.

The Immagrants I work along side do nothing for this country, they work every hour possible, while British citizens cannot find jobs, send any money they earn home to Eastern Europe, spend the bare minimum on food (they eat dry bread for lunch) and even avoid paying duty on cigarettes like the rest of us as they get Kilos of tobacco sent over here from home, therefore they do absolutely nothing for the British economy, in my opinion it is time to close the borders next August when they are all home on their 3 week holiday to claim tax back.

Have to agree with most comments on hereim sure the vast majority on benefits would rather be where they were before they needed benefits my wife worked a full time and part time jobs weekly nearly all the years before she became disabled and would still be doing the same i used to work over 100 hours a week before the businesses failed in the recession we now live on benefits mine being 58 quid a week carers allowance like Inca And BB we would like to return to our previous lives i like many would like to see a curb on payments to those who can work and those who come into this country and receive before paying into the pot in a perfect world there would be full employment and a controlled immigration policy can any one on this site see this happening?

I recently made a light-hearted post in a completely unrelated thread in which I mentioned racism, and I hadn't read this thread at the time. I'm well behind, and catching up, and I'm sorry if that post may have seemed inappropriate. It was about 'Cockerneys, Brummies and Yorkies' !!!

It seems to me that we have a natural instinct to be suspicious of the 'incomer.' That, in itself, seems fair enough to me. Until such time as a stranger has shown himself to be friend or foe, then he remains a stranger. Surely, it must be for HIM to prove his motives and not for us to accept him without question. If nowt else, one thing I have learned from these forums is that if we treat strangers who come knocking at our door without that suspicion, then we are gullible fools.

So - those who come to the UK with the sole intention of ripping off the UK economy should - to my mind - be clearly separated from those who come here with sincere and honest intentions. It seems that we don't have a mechanism to distinguish between the two. As per usual, the 'nice guys' are quietly getting on with doing their stuff, but the scammers (at least, those who are caught) are hitting the headlines. Because of our natural suspicion, we then tend to tar ALL immigrants with the same brush. It's the scammers - and of course the fanatics and extremists - that seem to completely queer the pitch for the good and honest incomers.

I remember it was possible to emigrate to Australia for £5. B100dy years ago that was - but unless you had a skill or ability to bring with you, then you didn't get in. In effect, you were 'vetted.' So, WHAT is the problem with 'vetting,' now ? It's always been a source of amusement to me to observe that you may be refused an Australian Visa if you've been inside - yet at one time, that was EXACTLY what got you a free ticket out there !!!

No - my belief is that we should be ready to welcome 'incomers' - but ONLY when they have proved themselves worthy of our respect. We are not doing this, and I really don't understand why.

Editing/deleting posts.

As far as I can understand, we have a limited time in which we can edit our posts. After that, they are 'set in stone,' unless we can get an Admin to edit them for us.

So we can delete the CONTENTS of a post within that time - BUT the post will still remain in the thread. We may prefer to put a comment in the post, such as "Post deleted due to...blah, blah" or just "Post deleted." But I believe the 'shell' of the post will still be there unless or until an Admin deletes it.

I am always interested to see reports of benefit cheats living the life of Riley. I have spent some years working in the voluntary sector(honest), Credit Union, urban regeneration, etc. I must admit i have never come across this phenomenon, seen plenty of people strugglig to survive on the pitance they get. I understand the sentiment with the "you breed em so you feed em", remark, but it isnt the parents who starve, and the childredn are not responsible in my opinion.
As for immigrants, in my opinion some work all the days god sends and others get what they can off the state, just like the rest of us, i see no difference to be honest.
Bill i to remember the ships going to Australia, but i thought it was a tenner. Although my grandchildren say i was around when they went for nothing in stripy shirts and chains.

My family went to Australia on the £10 ticket, some of you may know that I recently found them after searching since 1972, I lived out there for a year in 1980 and wish I'd been able to stay, but I chose to come back and the rest is history.

For the avoidance of doubt I have never ever meant ANY of my posts to be racist, if anyone thinks that they are please tell me, I will alter them straight away, likewise if anyone wants a post altered or deleted please pm me with full details of what you want done.

This thread is not intended to be a racist rant, its about 'free speech', which is something that I do believe is still allowed in this country. This thread is about discussion, its about letting everyone who takes part put their point of view without anyone taking offence. I am sure that no one who is posting on this thread is intentionally doing so to cause offence to anyone, if anyone thinks differently then please let me know.

My point with the thread was that lots of people are turning into racists even people that have never called anyone in their lives
I have not spoken to anyone who is not sick of it even the nurses that come to chris have mentioned stuff.
Even just little comments like 'when your shopping it's like being abroad sometimes' this is because lots of them don't or can't speak English, so as we find out to our cost we have to watch what we say, they can say whatever they please.
