  • Norovirus doing the rounds

Hi everyone, just to cheer you all up thought I'd just put a warning up about the norovirus doing the rounds in case you haven't already heard!

It's known as the winter vomiting bug as well and can be quite nasty. Symptoms include -

nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, aches and pains, headaches, high temp and sometimes a cough and can last between 6 and 48 hours usually. Most people will recover without any lasting effects however dehydration can occur quickly in the elderly, ill, infirm and young children.

The advice I have been given is to drink fluids, stay indoors until 48hours after symptoms subside and take pain relief when needed. It is highly contagious so you should avoid going out if at all possible and keep your own towel/flannel separate and clean surfaces touched (toilets etc) with an anti bac cleaner.

It's done the rounds at work and with so many vulnerable people getting it and me looking after them I'm just starting to recover this afternoon and evening after being treated to all it's glory! I was also advised to not visit Drs or hospital due to the risk of passing it on, and that they can do nothing anyway, but to contact them if no improvement by Monday. Having said that we have had a couple of clients admitted for rehydration and treatment with them being elderly and infirm.

My only hope now is that I may have lost a few pounds weight lol!! Hoping that none of you guys do get it!!

    Re: Norovirus doing the rounds

Thanks Monzer, my O/h has been unwell with a tummy virus since New Year. Doctors are only now doing more tests. He has lost 3kg+ in a month. They have not said it is Norovirus yet but the result of test may prove it might be.

He is surving on a fish diet and light foods only and no milk or dairy produce.

I wish you very speedy recovery and drink loads.

How effective would a bactericidal cleaning solution be against a virus?

No idea not a lot probably but that's what they said, personally I've used a bleach solution but that's just me!

Bleach or washing soda is an good as anything; hydrogen peroxide solution will also work, as the aim is to disrupt or distort the outer protein of the virus.
