AA / Renault Breakdown Cover Dillemma

I need some

Any recommendations?

I need it to cover everything, for me and wife, except Euro Driving.

We have been with AA, but that was free with Car.

Also any offers you may have noticed

Green Flag are supposed to be good. Does your insurance co not offer some sort of deal with your policy?

Failing that get yourself on Mrs Cashback or one of the other cashback sites and do some searching.

I used to work for the AA so I have my breakdown cover with the RAC!!!!

Costs me £16 a month for the family (4 cars) with homestart and relay home/destination if you break down and also covers any car you're travelling in rather than just your own, I don't think its bad for the cover you get but we've only actually used it once!!!!

A little tip - Tesco's will provide breakdown cover if you break down in their car park, they'll get the AA out for you FOC, and seeing as it seems no one is very far away from a Tescos these days - it's quite handy

Only thing I would say about Green Flag is that they use a network of garages rather than their own trained patrols so you can never guarantee the service you'll get.

We are with the RAC and have never had a problem with them. I think it pays to go with the 'big' companies.

Hi Pkea,
I have a family policy with the RAC, the best way to pay, I find is using Tesco clubcard points. Even if you dont have them for this renewal, get a joint family card. Make sure they all use theirs and when your RAC is up for renewal the vouchers are worth 4x face value.

I found the RAC wanting. When my Range Rover broke down, after waiting over four hours, I decided to "limp" home and, barely two miles away and after being told that there were no patrols in my area, I spotted two RAC vans parked in a lay by with the drivers chatting - were it not for the fact that they were on the opposite carriage way...

Later in that journey, I was forced to stop again when the car burst into flames, causing six thousand pounds worth of damage.

I will never use the RAC again.

I have a policy as part of my insurance and having had to use independents on occasion, I have never had a problem with them.

I imagine if you call The AA they may well want to keep your custom and offer you a deal, it must be worth a try.

I've got AA cover with the truck, was very disappointed with them when I had to phone them to help me out.

Basically i had to call them when I got a puncture, as the spare was flat as well (long story, 2 week old truck, should've had been flat etc) I explained to them EXACTLY where I was, i.e. in a quarry and not at the roadside. Guy explained that would be fine and they would send one of their 4x4 patrols to come get me.

Waited about 2 hours for them to turn up, their driver phoned me and eventually with some explaining he found me, once he turned up he pulled up to the weighbridge at the quarry, phoned me and said "no chance I can get down there mate". So he ed off. Phone call from AA, telling me it would cost around £300 to rescue me due to the specialist nature of the equiptment needed to get to me!

So, after 2+ hours of waiting, I was in exactly the same situation as before i phoned them. I ended up getting the garage to bring me another wheel 70 odd miles to replace the spare that was knackered.

So, the AA aren't top of my list of recommendations. I wouldn't have minded had I not explained the situation in the first place. so, they're muppets

I was with Green Flag, never had any problems at all with them, although they use independants have always had good service and never had to wait long. They keep in touch with estimated times of arrival etc which is reassuring. Have now changed my insurance to M & S, their breakdown cover is RAC but haven't had to use them yet so can't comment on them.

Ok bit of an update and change of plan.

Basically when i got my car i got 3 years cover
If i had my MOT done at Renault I got another years cover through a voucher than i gave at the time of MOT.
So I phoned Renault Assistance to find out why I had not tecived anything to be told that it lapsed at end of May. I told them of the MOT offer and they stated that they never recieved anything from the Garage, and that to renew I would have to call AA
So I checked AA online and its £102.40 for the year.
I phoned AA to see if any discount to be told that I would need a new Policy at £197 !!!!
I told her that it was cheaper on their website and they came back witha price of £125.??

So as I always have my car serviced at the Dealer and MOtd there (For convience) I am going to email the MD and ask why they never sent the docs off to AA fro the renewal and what are they going to Do About It

Okey this is my short letter, bear in mind that it is a website box and not a proper email

I have always used you for all servicing and when I had my MOT done earlier this year I had a voucher for free Renault Assistance that I submitted. I have just realised from contacting the AA that this was never renewed by yourselves.
Can you please explain to me why you never arranged this and what you intend to do about this. It will now cost me £110 to renew cover that I though I had. I am extremely dissapointed with the service you provided and I am thinking of taking my servicing and MOT business eleswhere along with any future purchases.

You might want to add the date of the service to your letter so they can check in their files and referance it right.Otherwise good and to the point.
