    Re: ENAIDS TV

All depends on what you're after enaid, if you simply want a telly that'll see you through the digital changeover then there are loads of the old 'tube' telly's going cheap due to the popularity of LCD and plasma.

If you want a nice slim LCD or plasma, plasmas are clearer but more expensive and you can get image burn on them if you watch the channels that have the logo on all the time it will eventually imprint itself into your screen permanently.

For HD you need to buy a HD receiver and then pay extra for the programmes that are broadcast in HD (Don't think this includes Robin Hood).

Try the supermarkets for a bargain rather than currys or comet who tend to be a little lax with their customer service.

What is your budget for a new set?

From there, you can choose which way to go.

30 bob pmsl no only joking lol
I don't want to spend more than a couple of hundred really I know that sounds silly, but we are not techi people and the more techi they are the more problems they cause for us .
We have Sky Tv and a DVD player and a video recorder all of which have a remote control, none of which we can fully function.
So as long as we can plug all that in and OH can watch sky I'm not bothered about looks or anything. Thanks all of you for replying

            Re: ENAIDS TV

Tesco have a 28" widescreen TV for £179.96. This is not LCD or Plasma however and the link is here.

            http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.200-0950...t.y%3d290.aspx

The lowest almost comparable LCD I have found is this one but is 26" not 28"

            http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.200-8654...t.y%3d290.aspx

Or there is this 32" HD ready set from Misco at £299.99

            http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/...&sourceid=6164

Unless you plan on having an HD source, such as Sky HD, then there may be little point in purchasing an HD capable set. Although, with upscaling and progressive scan available on many DVD players now, it must be said that the picture quality on DVD's is much better on an HD set.

The changeover to digital will not matter to you as you have Sky already and therefore do not receive your tv via the analogue radio transmissions that are soon to be switched to digital.

Of course, smaller sets may cost less - do you have an idea of what size you want?

              Re: ENAIDS TV

Enaid, just a thought, you haven't placed anything on top of your telly have, such as a stereo with speakers as this can make the colours go funny but it will eventually right itself if you remove the item, even my stereo remote control makes mine do it.

                Re: ENAIDS TV

Well thank you, I didn't know I didn't need an HD TV because I have Sky so that is a great help for us.
The Tesco ones are out of stock, I think we will go down tomorrow and have a look in Asda and Tesco. OH wants one of them thin ens as he calls them lol I know it's funny but that's us .
Thanks for your help at least we know we won't get ripped off now being sold something we don't need. It won't be a big one either lol, who wants a TV bigger than the settee lol.
We are just lucky the lads not here, He would have had us spending a fortune on things we really need Thanks again Enaid xx

                    Re: ENAIDS TV

My telly sometimes goes a bit strange, and not all the colours on teletext show up, we found that if you wiggle the aerial and or any scart/other leads going into the tv, (do it at the point it connects with the tv), then it generally sorts the problem out, usually its cos something isnt just connected right.

                    Hope this is of help

I was gonna suggest the same thing Delta. Scart leads are terrible for it. When the kids are playing with PS2 and knock everything about it usually disturbs the scart lead.....such a pain.

I know your probably sorted with your tv now enaid but for anyone else Ebuyer do really good tv's and other stuff, and very good prices. This is not an advert before you say owt msl:

Oooooh don't talk to me about ordering over the net, I have spent a fortune in the last two weeks buying on Ebay, to be fair, one item was a train for the other half for Xmas, and I have been getting together some beading stuff for my daughter for Xmas (saves her pinching my stuff!). I really am going to have to get my butt in gear and start selling some of the made products!

Just like to thank you all for your input and help on this matter.
We did in fact whimp out and go to Curry's after Argos and Comet.
The choice was amazing (especially when you don't understand half of whats on offer lol)
The TV was £700 a lot more than I intended on I know, but them thin ens as OH puts it are a lot nicer looking. It has loads of things on it don't know what they are lol but we may find out someday lol.
So case closed on Enaids TV and thanks again everyone xxxxxxxx
