It was probably always safe to eat any cucumbers that hadn't been jammed up some kinky Kraut's jacksi.

BBC News - E. coli: Economic impact on the agriculture industry

            :
One country that will not suffer, says Professor Hughes, is the UK.

"When food scares arise, we tend to stick with what we know," he says. With UK consumers increasing their consumption of locally-produced vegetables, the outbreak "will probably be a strong positive" for UK producers, he argues.

All it takes is proper procedures in the kitchen whilst cooking, ie washing the salad before consuming, as does making sure that all meats are cooked through, using separate utensils for raw/cooked meats and keeping food covered in the fridge etc etc.

Oh hang on of course, I forgot there's also loads of people out there who think that Tesco et al should wash the salad and veggies before they sell them to us, and of course there's the other lot of people out there who just eat takeaways and the only thing they do in their kitchen is dust it.

I never dust my kitchen. I do, however, brew coffee there.
