Out of interest does anyone still have a half penny ?
If you think nobody cares if you're alive, try missing a couple of payments.

I've still got 1/2 penny, sixpence, threepenny bit.

I remember I was 7 being the first person into the shop in our village to spend the new money - I bought a Curly Wirly!

Remember how rich you felt, with 8 half crowns jingling in your pocket!

I have retained a large selection of old money coins; including the sweet little farthing

When cooking, I still work out recipes in Imperial measures; good old lbs & ounces.

my view is that (as with the exchange of the currencies for the Euro in 1999) there was probably a massive rip-off going on and people ended up with much less in their pocket than before decimalisation.

I also can't understand why we couldn't have kept traditional names like the shilling rather than 5 pee.

The biggest loss imo was the £1 note as that really devalued the pound in peoples' minds (although that came much later, when was it? 1980?)

Well i still think occasionally in old money . But really are we in a situation where we need to generate a new currency or revaluation at 10 or a hundred times the old money . I think I 've got a old halfpenny certainally some pennies , and some old silver threpenny bits . which are about the size of the new five pence piece not the old shilling replacement .
Still in a few years Iexpe t they will allbe gone and the smallest coin will be a pound.
