And

3 people have a meal coming to £30 so they split the bill 3 ways, all throwing £10 in each.
a few minutes later the waiter comes back sayin "sorry but we have overcharged you, the bill only came to £25".
on this they all take £1 back out of the change and give the waiter £2 for a tip
meaning they have all paid £9 for there meals and the waiter has £2

9+9+9=27 plus the 2 off the waiter is 29

wheres the other pound gone...:?

Oh thanks, I would have been up all bloody night trying to work that out. I just love those lateral thinking thingy's.

Actually, thats now even more annoying, because one way you have

9 + 9 + 9 = 27 + 2 = 29

and then you have

25 + 3 + 2 = 30

Sapphire, you've added the £2 twice in both 9x3 and the 27+2. Look at it the other way, start with £30.00 - £2 (waiter tip) = £28 -£1 -£1 -£1 = £25 which was the bill!

Hope this makes sense. I'm on holiday so blame someone else if it doesn't!

OR another way of saying it

£30 on the plate divided by 3 = £10 each
change is £5 cause the meal only cost them £25
They all get themselves £1 out of the fiver leaving £2 on the plate for the waiter


but

They DID only pay £9.00 for the meal each (including the tip though!!)

and they did only give £2 to waiter....
