When the ball is played there has to be a member of the opposing team between the goal and the person playing the ball.

Otherwise anyone could just goal hang.

and our survey says, you are wrong. one person or two people between the attacker and the goal? what about active and inactive players?

Re: BBC, that one day score is not right

If the ball is being played to a member of the same team who is trying to make a run and there is another player on the same team starting his run when he's off side, this means he is active in the play and has, therefore, ruined the play for the player who is onside.

Re: BBC, that one day score is not right

ok, firstly the offside rule is about two defending players(my example defender and goalkeeper) between the attacker and the goal. If the attacker is level between the last defender and goalkeeper he is onside. If a player is standing in an offside position when the ball is played but a player running from an onside position gains possession of the ball he is onside(the other player is therefore inactive). Graze in my drive??

I think you said one member of the team(not correct) you also mentioned if the ball played through and one of the attackers was offside that the other player is also offside(not correct unless he{the offside player} gains possession of the ball)
Anyway Stick to the sport you know, Rugby. What is the offside rule in Rugby?

I dont know that one, but I do know that for a try, they have to be actually holding the ball for it to count, or even cover it with their body. (when the ball goes over the line that is)

And they wear proper shorts in rugby, where you can see the legs, none of this namby pamby football shorts down the knees.

And they dont cry if they fall over a blade of grass, they get up, spit the teeth out, and carry on.... real men!
