Whilst there may be many out there praying for their jobs, and for the world not to disappear down an economic plug hole, one chap has gone to different lengths to try and make the world a better place…
Nebraska state senator Ernie Chambers, sought a permanent injunction to prevent the "death, destruction and terrorisation" caused by God. He claimed that God had inflicted "widespread death, destruction and terrorisation of millions upon millions of the Earth’s inhabitants".
Whilst his quest seemed to be stretching the system a bit, he did come up with some interesting legal arguments in support of his claim…

The senator cited various facts in his legal arguments including that U.S. currency says "In God We Trust," God is invoked during oaths in court hearings, and chaplains offer prayers before legislative bodies. "If God is omnipresent," Chambers said in one hearing, "then he is here in Douglas County and in this courtroom."
Judge Marlon Polk said in his ruling that a plaintiff must have access to the defendant for a case to proceed. He then threw out the Nebraska Senator’s lawsuit against the Almighty, saying there was no evidence that the defendant had been served.
"Given that this court finds that there can never be service effectuated on the named defendant this action will be dismissed with prejudice."
Chambers is an avowed atheist and Creighton University School of Law grad.
It doesn’t come much more spurious than that!

    Re: OMG!

LOL....but he does have kind of a point!

I've often mused on the 'swearing' on various books to prove truthfulness.

I've had to do it a few times and have felt fake but afraid to pipe up with, "but I don't actually believe in the contents of the book under my hand".
"Although scalar fields are Lorentz scalars, they may transform nontrivially under other symmetries, such as flavour or isospin. For example, the pion is invariant under the restricted Lorentz group, but is an isospin triplet (meaning it transforms like a three component vector under the SU(2) isospin symmetry). Furthermore, it picks up a negative phase under parity inversion, so it transforms nontrivially under the full Lorentz group; such particles are called pseudoscalar rather than scalar. Most mesons are pseudoscalar particles." (finally explained to a captivated Celestine by Professor Brian Cox on Wednesday 27th June 2012 )
