  • How could this occur ? Gordon Brown's letter

Have heard nothing but this being discussed on the radio today.

Thought I would post up the letter in question for those who haven't yet seen it.

Personally, I can understand the Mother's reaction to receiving this letter, I wouldn't have been too impressed either!

Whoever highlighted the gaffs in the letter missed out the 'cumfort'.

Is it me or is it deeply worrying that my six year old niece could spell better than the Prime Minister?

This is not about whether or not he tried to make it personal, it is about his complete lack of care and attention to detail.

He is the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, if he cannot write properly or see properly, then somebody should have checked it for him, before it was sent.

I am sure he did not mean to do it, but he did it nonetheless and this is indicative of the wider malaise at the heart of the relationship between Labour and the Armed Forces.

In short, Labour hate the military. They always have. During his time as Chancellor, the Treasury spent the minimum they could get away with on defence. Brown has systematically starved the military in order to save public spending and to continue with his grandiose plans.

At the same time as Gordon Brown was enjoying Sky Sports, paid for on expenses, claiming for lightbulbs and paying his cleaner more money than a frontline soldier gets paid, those same soldiers were dying in his name.

If a Colonel asks for a helicopter, it is not because he has taken a fancy to it like some MP would fancy a duckhouse. He is asking because he needs it.

Gordon Brown is not enthusiastic about a war former Prime Minister Blair committed him to and the military has little confidence in the Defence Ministry, which has seen four Defence Secretaries in three years. The needs of the military should be paramount in his mind and should be the first priority when considering the conduct of the war. Until Gordon Brown recognises this we face the continued sad spectacle of lions being led by donkeys.

do not tell me about labour and MOD and the Military, let us down more than once in the 1960s, whilst we were on active service.
