  • How clean is your favourite takeaway?

Now is your chance to see if your local restaurant or take away cuts the cloth with their hygiene standards.

Having looked our local Chinese is not that appealing anymore...........

I found my favourite restaurant and it only had 2 stars, which surprises me cos I thought it was right posh! Can't find any local take away places on it though so I guess what I don't know etc etc...

well I went to have a look but seems that no Scottish councils have taken this up.

FWIW as part of my job i have often been into hotel and restaurant kitchens, most recently during work in Dubai.

I suspect that the cost you psay at the table has nothng to do with how clean it might or might not be in the kitchen.

it has to do with pride of the chef (also seems to be bore out by ramseys kitchen nightmares too).

It can be an eye openr thats for sure.

I think you're right, in our area there are a few of the top restaurants that have complained about their low rating, surprisingly McDonalds, Tesco and alike rate quite highly (not sure about that having eaten there)

Worryingly there are a few day nurseries and schools that have very low ratings, including one that achieved a zero rating.

We can, as long as its a different take out from the one you've checked - what we don't know, won't hurt! lol xXx

Just out of interest, I've compared both the day nurseries that my youngest son went to. The one that I pulled him out of because I thought the staff were rubbish, it was a bit grubby, the food portions were tiny, and I had no confidence in whatsover, has got a higher rating in everything except Confidence in Management, than the nursery I sent him back to [which I'd had previous fantastic experience with - great staff, very clean, plenty of food, including seconds, thirds and fourths in my sons case! lol]

Just goes to show, that the council standards don't necessarily mean that much.......

If you are looking at Ofsted repoerts for shcools nurseries be aware that they are not benchmarked against a set standard, so if one school gets a score neuurically higher than another it doesnt necessarily mean that you should (or would wish to ) send your child there.

The scores are onmly realistiacllay relevant to the school in quesion as they seem to reflect how well or badly a specific school is doing, so at least you can get a view year to year how a particular school is doing but its really hard to take two schools and say this one is better than the other based on the scoring.

There is a kind of 'moderation' that goes on to prevent the naff schools being labvelled as naff preventing them from being permanently labelled crap.

Re: How clean is your favourite takeaway?

Our kids will be changing schools (as soon as we can move), we have a choice of two in the area we're moving to. One has a 5 stars ofsted rating, the other 3.5 stars. I prefer the 3.5 one because I like the feel of the school and what it stands for. All I hope for is that they enjoy their primary school years and that they have a sense that their emotional needs are as, if not more important than their educational needs (which will follow naturally). I don't think many primary schools have the balance right, especially in infant school. The whole thing annoys the hell out of me....homework at 5 yrs old??? I was still playing in a sand pit at 9....teen lol

Look at when the Ofsted inspection was, as they arent annual inspections and a lot can happen in a year.
And if there is something that concerns you on it, speak to the Head and ask what has been done about it.

Another relatively unknown resource to find our about schools, are the minutes of the Governors meeting which are public documents. These will contain discussions on EVERY aspect of the school, Curiculum, Finance, Property, Health & Safety, etc
The governors are the ones who will make all these decisions with some input from the Headteacher.
Although different school governing boards can behave differently, but you will be able to see that if you get old of the minutes.
You can get hold of these from the Local Authority where the School is

You get a better feel of the school by talking to pupils and seeing what they are doing.
I have been in quite a few lessons, and the change is collosall since i was at school.
                        Basically everything has changed

We have an appeal for the school we want out daughter to go to she has been rejected on infant class size limit so not hopeful she can get in but we have to try.

It does make life interesting though.
