  • my day off

I don't really get many days off and have not had a holiday abroad for 3 years - all because of our money pit of a house.

Now please don't get me wrong and I would feel really guilty to moan about living in our house in the current circumstances when people our losing theirs - but everything in this house that we do seems to lead to another job.

For example when we moved in we found all the utilities ( not the toilets thank god! ) were plumbed into a pipe that led straight into a soak away in the garden

every floor in the house is uneven.

There was an upstairs extension before we moved in and the ceilings downstairs were not put in properly and all started To crack.

When we plumbed a bathroom recently we made an error which meant the pressure built up in a tank - which had an emergency overflow pipe - which did not work! and water came flooding through our kitchen ceiling - which guess what we have just replaced.

We re-fitted another bathroom at some expense and now a year later it is riddled with mould - so we have to sort out ventilation through a flat roof and completely re-decorate.

I will make it clear - we love the house and where we live - but as a result of all the problems ( oh yes it cost £7000.00) just to re-wire downstairs I have got in a bit of a muddle with money. Nothing serious but today I am spending my time going through all my debts and credit cards and sorting myself out .

Reducing all my credit limits and setting up standing orders and cutting up cards.

I only have one problem card which I am doing the SAR I should have done ages ago

So not a moan as I am very grateful to live here - just a little let off steam session, to show how we all can get ourselves into problems very easily and I really need to get myself organised.

Then when the house is finished you can all come round for a party! Promise

Right - done 4 letters to credit cards /put down limits and set up additional Standing orders. found one that they owe me money! £80 which will help

Sent forms to cash in a small amount of premium bonds I have

Sent SAR about PPI on the one card I am worried about EGG. Tried to transfer to a loan but so far no Joy.

Next on list get up to date credit reports to find out why refused loan and look into the Hunter one as was subject to an identity fraud.

Then after lunch about an hours filing of all my paperwork and re-do my household budget sheets. Absolutely thrilling.

But I know I will feel better when all done as will feel a bit more in control .

Just switched electricity suppliers should save about £568 per year - so I guess even just doing that should make the day off worthwhile.

Next check interest rates on everything I pay and pay off the highest interest rate ones first - bet that it is EGG . I have already cancelled the PPI on that so should switch that to paying off the debt .

Next step - check the payment on my Offsett mortgage and increase it if I can. Every little helps.

Need to check broadband/telephone as well - see I am really getting into the swing of things.
