    Please can someone help .......
The starter motor on my car has gone, which apparently is fairly easy to do.
The garage can't do it for a week and will charge £100 so I thought 'why not do it myself?'
Trouble is I can't find anything about it on the internet.
Does anyone here know how to? If so, could you explain in basic language please. Bearing in mind I am blonde and over the age over technical.

It is a ford mondeo estate 1.8 ltr, diesel, T reg ('99 I think)

Please please help, I will love you forever,
    Sally xx

    Hi Sally,

Had you forgotten I was a greasemonkey? Tut, shame on you

Firstly, how do you know it is your starter motor that has gone, has it actually been looked at or is someone just guessing?

"apparently easy to do" depends on what previous experience you have of DIY mechanics, have you done much work on cars before?

Does the quote from the garage of £100 include parts or is this just labour, if it is both then that is a fair price as a starter motor itself will cost between £60 and £120 depending on wether it is a reconditioned one or a main dealer part.

It also depends on what range of tools you have access to.

If you still want to attempt to change the starter yourself, I will PM you my number, ring me and I will guide you through it while you work on it.

Probably be a lot easier than when I have tried to help you out with your puter in the past msl:

I'm afraid not Sally, £100 all in , go for it.

Knowing you, you would cause another £300 worth of additional work lol

In the meantime, is it possible for you to park on a hill each time you park?

Has it completely gone, or is it just being an intermittent pain? As Tools says, try and park on a hill, then you can bump start it into action. Sometimes "rocking" the car can jolt it into action as well, or giving it a bash to move the teeth round and get it going. Pity you don't live nearer, OH could have got you one at cost price, and fitted it for you as well.

            Good luck!

Oh Sal, have you forgotten your feminine wiles hun, surely there's a guy (who's handy with a spanner) at work or the pub or somewhere thats gagging for a bit of female company and would be willing to mend your car, for the price of a nice fish and chip supper.

Give it a thought hun before you go spending money out, you never know till you ask do you.

Go and buy the Haynes manual for your model.
I have found them a god send.

With that and Tools on the phone you should be good to go.

                      Re: Help please - Mondeo

Armed with my spanners and a photo I looked under the bonnet (it is so dirty under there lol) and could see nothing that looks like the picture!!
Have tried the rocking thing but nothing at all but couldn't your OH make a trip down for me Wendy lol
The only guys that said how easy it is, suddenly weren't free to do it! Yeah thanks a bunch!
Found a garage who say I can have one for £85 but need part exchange, the guy said he would trust me to give it to him the following day, but has just rung to say apparently there are two types so needs the old one to know which!

Ex OH has got so fed up of me that he is going to come tomorrow to take the old one out, take that to garage guy who will then order the new one which - as long as it's before 10 - will come the same day. Then ex OH will fit it.
I was ringing him to see if he knew the best places (or any where) that I could buy one, when he fineally let on he knew how to do it!

My number plate is JFU which my ex step daughter pointed out was 'Just F*** You', when we were playing word games with number plates lol

Anyway, thanks everyone. I so wanted to be able to say I had done it myself, oh well.
                      Will buy that manual CB

Mondeo starters are on the front at the bottom, so you need to climb under the bumper to get to it.
