Ivory question

My husband recently found one of his late mother's jewellery boxes and presented me with a bracelet. I had originally thought it was made of Mother of Pearl, but Hubby has had a look and has more than a little suspicion that it is in fact ivory.

My question is, is this legal?

Whilst I don't want to be without such a precious heirloom, I don't want to break the law!

Yes it is legal. Old Ivory is fine.

This was mentioned on the radio the other day, I'm in no way suggesting this is what you are doing, but the latest trick is to try to pass off new ivory as old ivory making it legal to sell. I think they suggested to seek out a professional in the field & get provenance on the item, it may help in the future & you have proof you are not breaking any laws, if may help in the future if you pass it on to your offspring (if you have any)

As long as I can keep it that is literally all I worry about. It is such an honor to have something that means to much to him. We think it was a wedding present (1920s ish) or it was a 50th wedding anniversary gift (1970s ish).

I will check if I can pass it on to my daughter, who probs won't wear it but it will mean a lot to her to have Granny's bracelet!
