Help please

Does anyone on here know anything about damp proofing? Other half got a wee problem in his house and apparently it needs damp proofing, at the very least along one wall (its an adjoining to next door wall), he has just phoned from work and asked me to try and find out how much it is likely to cost.

As I said to him thats like asking me to research and find out how much a roofer costs! until a workman sees the job he cannot price it. So I just wondered if anyone here knew anything about it, or knows a damp proofer, or indeed is one?
