The OFT has announced the closure of 19 unlicensed lead generation websites. Lead generation businesses source information from people looking for credit and sell this data on to other businesses.

All well and good, but a quick 'Google' shows many many similar sites that are still running.

Are these companies and the owners of them going to be prosecuted for operating without a CCL?

Just having a small fraction of the websites taken offline isn't going to do much to deter the people who operate these.

I have done for quite a few. Well before this today, over the past few years.

Will be interesting to see if this is just the first batch, or just a token gesture in response to complaints? And whether any other action is taken that genuinely discourages such practice?

I'm sceptical..... but hopeful....
