• Ruddy tescos security, ie shoplifting.

Hi., not sure if I'm in the correct place, but here goes anyway.
I have received three letters now from a firm called DWF demanding £125 for the costs of the security at Tescos, what happened was I was doing a self scan shop and overlooked a pair of trainers reduced from £18.00 down to £5.00, anyway on leaving the store the alarms sounded and security collared me and checked my receipt to which there was no sign of the trainers, immediately apologised and offered to pay there and then as I forgot to scan them, anyway they took me to there office and took my name and address then called the manager on the radio or phone as he didn't attend the office, they said the manager didn't want the police involved but they did say I would receive a letter from RLP saying I would be billed around £150, to this I said call the cops but they wouldn't, I was then told I could leave, I didn't sign any paperwork or nothing.
A couple of weeks later I received a letter from a firm called DWF, saying they wanted a payment of £125,
The sum is broken down as follows
Value of goods stolen £0.00
Value of goods damaged £0.00
Value of cash stolen £0.00
Security costs £125.00.
I gave today received a letter saying if I don't pay with in seven days they may consider commencing court proceedings. Where do I stand on this please. ....Thank you.

ignore note they MAY the police not involved their admission not wanting them (£5.00) they would be a laughing stock of the force, just begging letters for a while with treatograms then they give up you were not fooled! sure others will comment also.

You are in exactly the same place as you were when the incident took place ie innocent of any wrongdong and in no way liable for Tesco security costs.

I like the "MAY CONSIDER COURT PROCEEDINGS" as a form of veiled threats.

They may have considered it, but have dismissed the idea, otherwise you would have received a letter before claim!

just continue to ignore them.

I have sent a recorded letter back denieing any claim against there clients but they still peruse the issue, also they called me on the phone to which I replied I gave nothing to say on the matter then blocked the number. .

I agree with des8 and MIKE770 ... don't bother replying to any more letters. They are not worth the price of paper they're written on (they do make a nice hamster bedding when shredded tho' :lol xx

I'm afraid you'll have more ignoring to do than others.
Replying to these firms only makes them think you are more vulnerable and open to their pressure.
Just keep ignoring.
