Hello
I work as a housing adviser for the third sector.
In some situations we will carry out conflict of interest searches incase we may be working with the party the situation is about. The conflict check requires name, address and postcode.
Recently I was asked by a manager to provide my date of birth to carry out a conflict check in relation to a client with the same name as me. I provided the information but it did make me think that my employer knows who I am?!
I've recently found that a client with the same name as me has not approached my employer but a client who is fleeing domestic violence from her husband who happens to share the same name as me. His name is recorded on the system which include his address and date of birth.
I couldn't help but wonder had my name been John Smith and the clients name had been John Smith I wouldn't have been asked.
Perhaps it is me who is thinking it's unfair of my employer asking me for this information?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
