  • Car finance

The car finance have issued a demand for monies as they deem wear and tear to be damage to the tune of £1500.
At no point at the beginning (4years ago) was any mention made of the wear and tear clause.
they are clearly strong arming the consumer. Can you offer any advice please.
    many thanks

      Re: Car finance

      Hi Utd2016,

Damages for wear and tear would normally be a subjective thing and I do know some finance companies use certain guidelines that are not appropriate for determining fair wear and tear in respect of a private use car. Have they explained and given a break down of what these charges are? What is your opinion on these charges, do you feel they are reasonable? Did you take any photos of the car before you handed it back to them?

As Kati has said, the first thing to do would be to consult your contract or if you are struggling then you can post up a redacted copy. Even if there is nothing in the contract there is a provision in the legislation that allows finance companies to reclaim compensation for any damage to the car which is beyond a reasonable condition.

If you want further information about how you consider reasonable condition I would suggest you take a read of this link below as it should explain everything you need to know.
