  • ASDA Cleaning Staff

I was talking to a friend of mine the other day who works as a cleaner in the local ASDA supermarket. She was shopping in Morrissons and told me that she does that as she can get a 10% 'staff' discount through her daughter there, but doesn't get one at ASDA :tinysmile_hmm_t2:. She went on to say that because she works via a cleaning agency instead of being directly employed by the store, she isn't accepted as 'staff'.

Now don't get me wrong, I don't think everyone should be allowed to get a discount on their shopping. But these cleaners wear ASDA uniforms, work in ASDA stores and go out of their way to help/direct shoppers to where they want to go. They work just as hard as any of the other members of staff, and I think it should be recognized!

What harm would it do for a company this size to give their cleaning operatives the same perks as their 'employed' staff members? ASDA are still paying their wages, the cleaners are (mostly) going above and beyond their contracted work ... would a 10% discount be that costly to the company that it is not worth doing? Surely recognizing the work that these contracted cleaners does is worth it!!
Debt is like any other trap, easy enough to get into, but hard enough to get out of.

    Totally agree Kati.

I also agree, however, ASDA is a part of the US based WalMart Group, they've always had some of the worst reputations when it comes to treatment of its workers:

      Aren't they lovely?
