  • Employer requesting info

Hi was just wondering weather or not it is legal for an employee to request medical documents of an imidiate family member that is ill in another country in order to approve time off 3 weeks in advance to visit them surely this would breach doctor patient confidentiality and what information can legally be asked for
Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Re: Employer requesting info

Certainly in this country no information would be forthcoming. Only the next of kin in the event that the patient is unable to give consent can request such information. Or officials such as the police in the pursuit of an investigation. This would be a breach of the data protection act 1998 amongst others, not to mention various legal governance policies and procedures.
