  • Notice to quit property help!

    Good afternoon,

I wondered if someone could help me and my father in law out with some advice. My father in law lived unmarried to his partner for 17 years in her flat. She sadly passed away 2 years ago and the property was left in her will to her daughter and all contents and possession including any other value of her estate was left to my father in law. He has now lived there for 2 years and suddenly had a Notice to quit the property letter drop on his door. Again according to himself he would be allowed to live there until he died but was not put in the will. The eviction date is 13th August 2025

He has recently ( 2 weeks ago) had his 3rd stroke and now cannot work for 2 months and cannot drive for 2 months. The only family he has is me and my wife but with 4 children and a 3 bedroom house have very little room also. Does my father in law have any rights or eligibility to stay in the property ?

We are now building an extension on the side of our property but this of course will take 6/7 months and we are concerned that this on top of his health could really become a desperate situation. Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated at this time

    Regards
    Mike

    Sorry for your loss.

The following information may help (posted for information only) -

That happens if my partner has died and has not made provision for me?

Write to the daughter, that he (you) want to dispute the will. That she needs to withdraw the Notice to quit within 7 days.

That you are happy to talk to her about it. Hopefully he will be able to stay for as long as needed i.e. the extension is built and
    habitable.
