  • RLP involved Scott and mears to recover debt!!!

    Please help,

a few years ago about 2 or 3 I got caught shoplifting in Superdrug for a 4 pound item, I instantly regretted it and never done it until then. Never done it since.

however I asked this forum what to do about the endless RLP letters I was receiving which I ignored.. so over a year has gone past and I’ve just received a letter from Scott and mears trying to get £100 on behalf of RLP.

what do I do?! Does this mean I need to pay? I ignored all the rest of the letters from RLP however I’m intimidated by Scott and mears as I don’t want this being brought to light because of my career and I don’t want to be taken to court? I was going to call and ask for a payment plan but I’ve been told that’s a bad idea?

    can someone help!!!

very stressed out I thought this was well behind me

Scott & Mears are debt collection agency, nothing more nothing less.
RLP weren't able to collect a non existent debt, nor can this new lot of bottom feeders.

    Ignore them and their letters.

The only thing you never ignore are genuine court papers (and you won't see any of those)

Hi I'm in the same situation, last year received letters from RLP and after about 5 letters they stopped till today... this morning I was shocked to get one from Scot and Mears. I thought they might give up after the RLP ... do they try another company to intimidate you into paying or are they getting serious? As it made me nervous. So is it safe to ignore these lot too?

        See post 2 above

This seems to be a new move by RLP.

For our records can you post up a copy (suitably redacted) of the letter received from Scott & Mears Services.
They are the collection arm of an outfit called Aberdeen Financial Ltd, which does buy debts, altho' S&M do collect for other firms.

Yes I will update a picture of the letter for you shortly. Can they send debt collectors to your house? Would it be safe to ignore them also?

Anybody can approach your house, but you do not have to speak to them.
If persons to whom you do not wish to speak do come, tell them to go away.
If they refuse they are trespassing

Whether or not S&M actually use doorstep collectors I do not know, but you do not have to engage with them, and they should give advance warning of their visit.
If you receive such a warning, write back withdrawing their right to enter your land.

Hi, I have also received a text from S&M regarding any RLP account. I had previously began to pay the debt on a monthly basis but then about 4 months in the payment failed and stopped after that (without me realising) I then started to get texts last year from RLP. I was advised on here to ignore them and block the number.

I’m now getting texts from S&M, is it safe to ignore these as well? I’m very nervous I will be taken to court or this will negatively effect my credit rating.

Can someone please give me some advice on what to do? Thanks

Jumping on here because I’ve received the same letter, after an incident in 2019 (which I immensely regret and have never done since) I stopped replying to letters as advised here, I’ve not heard since 2019 and have just received a letter through the door. I’ve hopefully attached an image of the letter, which threatens affecting my credit score. I really don’t know what to do

Ignore until something specific happens other than a threatening debt collectors letter.

RLP tried court once and got ripped apart by the judge. It's somewhere in these forums

Hi Ostell, I read all the forums two years ago when the initial incident first happened. I’m just worried that this company is legit when I’ve researched it and they’re threatening it could affect my credit score, I know the advice is to ignore however it seems that there isn’t much experience people have with Scott and mears going beyond a few months, so do we really know if the threats are empty?

So only RLP's customer can bring a court case, Scott and Mears can only write frightening letters.

It can only affect your credit score IF it goes to court and IF you lose and IF you don't pay within 30 days.

Scott & Mear nor RLP can take you to court
