I presume dates of birth are available to anyone interested in geneology? Marriage records I guess will show maiden names. Looking at the 'Happy Birthdays' on the public announcements page in the local press may also provide clues.

Can someone say for sure if dates of birth are a matter of public record or not?

My hobby is genealogy: I can confirm that information such as dates of birth are matters of public record.

And a quick warning to anyone who is tracing their family tree and is using an on-line tree: never ever input details of anyone who is alive/only recently deceased or, indeed, the deceased parents of anyone who is still alive. Standard bank ID question? 'Mother's maiden name.'
