  • Ministers approve 6% hike in council tax bills to help fund social care

Local authorities will be allowed to raise council tax bills by 6% over the next two years to help raise cash for social care in local communities, Sky News has learnt.
Ministers are expected to announce the measure on Thursday in a bid to plug the funding gap in care services for the elderly and disabled.
Under the plans, local authorities will be able to accelerate council tax increases already pencilled in for this parliament by former chancellor George Osborne.

How much will actually be spent on social care?

Mr Hunt says we ought to start saving for our social care from our twenties, the way we do with pensions.

My brother organised a pension when he was young,

As for my situation, I think I'll ask Mr H if he can organise for me to use the :_thedoctor__by_GuyF to go back *10* years or so!

At 50 I’m in trouble, unless I do a hell of a lot of favours for sailors! -That would be blind desperate sailors!
I did set up a pension when I was in my 20’s but as we have seen there is no guarantee with those either. Many have seen their pension pots disappear.
When you think of the amount of PAYE and NI we pay over our lives not to mention VAT on almost everything it is enough to make you scream and don’t get me started on the local council’s waste of money. Conwy council are spending £25 million, yep that’s £25 million rearranging a few lumps of concrete down on the coast. If they get more money it won’t go on social care it will go on some arty-farty, scary looking bit of tin designed by some ‘whacked off his head’ ejit as a homage to some local dignitary.
Mr Hunt is well named if you are a fan of rhyming slang but to be honest the whole thing has been run into the drain for years.
