Re: Money Box Live: The complexities and consequences of financial abuse, Money Box –

I remember when I worked as an outside officer in local government, we had a days course in identifying and reporting all forms of child abuse and most of us concluded that simple common sense was probably all we needed, and a keen eye! But financial abuse is a different thing and requires different levels of awareness and available information.

I guess its its a vast field and can happen in so many ways, many of them criminal and may be difficult to detect, especially if you're a victim, and can happen without safeguard in most circumstances. I remember when my late mother set up a power of attorney for me, her solicitor made a home visit and actually demanded reassurance that she could trust me ! So that's a good start.

I don't recall anyone reporting instances of financial abuse to me personally but I can see that it could be almost abuse by stealth in many cases. Except the case of the housewife giving her husband £40 a week for his 'beer/pocket money' .... Now that's creative accountancy!
