  • Motorists’ pockets being plundered by retailers, says AA

The AA has accused fuel retailers of “plundering drivers’ pockets” by putting up the price of petrol and diesel disproportionately. Over the last month it said that the price of oil has fallen by nearly 5% – whereas petrol prices are up by 1.2%. It said motorists are now paying an extra 1.73p a litre... Read more »

Could you believe it? The AA, certainly no friends of the motorist, spectacularly fail to identify exactly who is doing the plundering.
The article says petrol, including all refining and transport costs, is $613 per tonne.
The specific gravity of octane is 917.86kg / cu.m
This means that 1 cubic metre (1000 litres of petrol) weighs 917.86kg and 1 tonne is 1089.5 litres.
This gives 56 cents per litre or 36p per litre.
Added to that is 80p tax.
The tax is therefore over 200% of the cost of the fuel.
I don't see the AA saying anything about that.
    Idiots.

        Yes Mike.
It just shows you "rip-off Britain" is alive and well.
People don't appreciate the sheer size of the tax take here.
200% tax on the fuel needed to take you to work.
