Re: General Election 2015

I think we are faced with the three (or maybe two and a half now?) major parties appearing to merge into one and offering nothing. When I listen to George Osborne talk about the economy, I wonder if he lives in the same country as the rest of us!
Labour - I agree that Ed Milliband will never be PM, and to be honest, I am not even sure what they stand for
Lib Dems - weak, untrustworthy and unelectable
Cons - dismantling the public sector and I fear for the NHS under their stewardship
The problem I have is that there aren't any suitable alternatives, but I can see UKIP picking up seats when people look at what is on offer

Totally agree about David Milliband, if he had been leader of the Labour Party they would have more support.

Not sure I know what UKIP have to offer supermac9 ? Enlighten me

Re: General Election 2015

Here its a simple choice... Vote for the incumbent Labour MP who actually is a decent and well liked local MP, or risk the Nationalists... They want rid of Trident come hell or high water.... They are immoral.. Why?? If they are immoral then so are guns and tanks... do the same thing. Kill... I could quote a whole host of geopolitical and technological reasons why we MUST keep them, however, phrases like 'Ultracentrifugal Cascade' and 'symmetrical implosion' would bore you senseless, however, in a nutshell... a) Arguments about these never being used ignores the fact that in my fathers lifetime 2 have been. b) Arguing against them while Islamic State attempt to acquire such is akin to being Jewish in the 1930's and arguing against arming against the rise in Fascism and c)Nasty guys can't make them easily today, can you be so sure that will be the case in twenty years?

Completely agree with you on Trident, although god forbid it would ever be used we do need a nuclear deterrent and capability whist other unstable countries continue to do so.

Re: General Election 2015

I'm the UKIP voter in the poll!!!

I would normally be Liberal or Conservative but the Libs are crazy and I just don't believe the Cons (suitable name?).

My biggest worry is immigration, too many taking low paid zero hours contracts and keeping our own youth out of it. I think we should leave the EU and don't believe we would loose all the trade advantage it supposedly gives us. I just can't see businesses' rolling over and not negotiating their own trade deals.

Then all the expats could return and fill the jobs the immigrants would have got.

OK *racist* rant over !!!
They were out to get me!! But now it's too late!!

The most frightening thing is that Pakistan in particular possess a repository of these weapons and yet is horribly unstable and prone to attacks from Al Qaeda in the tribal hinterlands of Waziristan and Afghanistan plus the growing threats from the Islamic State within its borders... Look at the speed Islamic State took over chunks of Iraq... Those heavy weapons they are using were captured from old American bases, left in the hands of the hopelessly poorly trained and ill disciplined Iraqi Defense Force. If these assholes were to topple the government and moved in on the nuclear arsenal we might have 40 minutes to deal with that... Conventional weapons would be useless.. You could never let these shites get hold of them they would use them immediately if they could... Let's face it Islamic State even hates Shia, so dimmi (persons of other faiths) would be either forced to live in effective slavery and pay a special tax ( jizua)... Women may be taken as property etc etc.. Sound familiar??? This lot are Hitler without the army....

Re: General Election 2015

I am a ukipper and am not sorry either, we have schools closing, hospitals closing, GPS turning into businesses so profit afore patients or if no profits keeping afloat.
No one can tell me that the influx from the EU and farther afield re immigration has not affected our services, I would never believe them. We are told the masses come to the North West because we have plenty of houses for them. That's bull shit and even if it were true if we can house them then services should be pro rata to the population imo.
Can't stand being tied to Europe and all that entails, am sure we are being ripped off as we seem to be the most gullible and softest of the lot.
Labour will get in her it's a fact but my vote will let em know in my tin pot way that they are no longer what they were, a party for the working chap as round here that are not that many working.

Re: General Election 2015

Well, I am still a little undecided but I will definitely vote. I don’t look at the overall party but grill the local canvassers and nail them on issues that concern me. Then when they do not deliver I bombard them with complaints as I feel I have earned the right. I look on it as if I am interviewing them for a job and why not? I will be one of the panel deciding if they are suitable for the post and I will be paying their wages! We are their employers and I make sure they know it. I think many MPs get lazy because they assume the electorate will just shrug and mumble when they fail to deliver. If they thought they were going to be assessed, harassed and if they still did not behave, not get re-elected then they just might stop taking our apathy for granted.
Dennis Skinner is a star as Amethyst said and I wish he could go on forever.
Another reason I vote is as a thank you to groups like the Chartists and the female Suffragettes.

An optimist is someone who falls off the Empire State Building, and after 50 floors says, 'So far so good'!

Hmm, who to vote for??? Liar, Liar or Liar - difficult choice.....

They are all actors desperate for a job. I honestly cannot see Ed or Nigel leading this country though. Better the devil you know?

I really like the greens , although i disagree with them over nuclear power. I am of the opinion that we need it while we transfer to a low carbon zero growth economy. They also want to end the disasterous and immoral right to buy scheme and build many more houses . Of course certain issues don' seem to be being addressed . The major one is world overpopulation and the need to manage the world population down to a stable figure of less than one billion
.
How we do it and go through the problem of an aging population i am not sure but i know we need to cut global greenhouse emissions to prevent climate collapse and reduce the population to try to prevent environmentl collapse . Although it may be too late for many species .

Re: General Election 2015

Ideally both redistribute initially and then reduce population . Womens education , old age pensions and healthcare are important factors in population control . Along with low cost contraception and clean water and development. The rich need to give up little of what have to allow more for the poor. The richest one percent have more the rest of us put together. I am ready to go to the barricades but hope it wont come to that yet . If we don't do this right on global warming we could destroy the biosphere completely.

Whilst I agree with renewable energy, it isn't the best solution towards the aim of zero-carbon emissions.

The technologies and processes used to manufacture, transport and install wind turbines etc is a carbon heavy process itself. One nuclear power station can produce the same amount of energy as around 30,000 wind turbines.

I meant that the others have nothing to offer - I am really not sure if I know what UKIP actually stand for on most things, apart from immigration?
Having said that, the whole thing is starting to warm up a bit now, and battle lines are being drawn between the Tories and 'Big Business' (or at least some big business) v Labour and 'The People'! I can see the Libdems being squeezed out by everyone. The SNP are also starting to look strong north of the border.
Coalition 2 here we come.

Oh god, I hope not!! I'm still undecided myself (although it's a BIG Labour area here, so chances are our current MP will be voted back in) but having to put up with another Coalition is not what I think we need at all!

This country is (by the looks of it) heading towards a civil war, and it's going to take a very strong party to head it off. Good luck to them is all I say :tinysmile_hmm_t2:
